smth that helped me with this sort of thing is this Q&A answer I got from AG Cook in his songwriting workshop "If a project is interesting to you then the rest will sort itself out" kinda reconfigured my brain from worrying about being "Good" to just doing the things that feel fun and interesting

i never did take him up on his offer, though albeit the hair he worked on *was* beautiful. i wonder if he's still out there, flagging down strangers in trader joes and showing them laminated newspaper clippings

020

emmy @eeeeemmy.bsky.social · 06/07/2026

he untied his hair to show me that he, too, has beautiful horse-like hair. he offered to do my hair too, saying he has a number of women clients, but he's open to "whoever." i think i took his business card, which he offered to me a few times.

emmy @eeeeemmy.bsky.social · 06/07/2026

thinking about a time I went to Trader Joe's and an old man with long, tied-up hair came up to me to comment on how beautiful my hair was. he went on to explain how he used to do equestrian hair competitively, and showed me laminated newspaper clippings of horse beauty competitions he had won.

the school of song classes have been a nice happy medium between these two things - for 1 month, get attention from potential peers - but those classes are $200 a pop baby

constantly split between two thoughts of "i should maintain a consistent online presence, produce well-packaged and well-marketed works, and attempt to attain some amount of notoriety so i can find and connect with other musicians more easily" and "noodle in Ableton alone and talk to no one"
