THE GOVERNMENT DIDN'T SAY NOTHIN
A poem by E. D. Watson

On a dark winter night in New Jersey the sky was abuzz with strange flashing lights.
Some cried war and shouted, No mercy!
Others thought Santa upgraded his sleigh.
But the government didn't say nothin.
On Reddit there were lots of theories.
It was called invasion or incursion.
I got so scared I even asked Siri; she read me some headlines she found online.
But the government didn't say nothin.
Trump went on X and said Let's shoot em down, First responders said We need answers!
Police sent up their best drones from the ground and the crafts just disarmed and returned them.
But the government didn't say nothing.
Most people kept shopping, they stayed serene.
Others warned of alien invasion; soon thereafter my feed was all memes and opinions, both qualified and un-.
But the government didn't say nothin.
Some called it a psyop. Others said nukes.
Or we ripped spacetime with quantum computing.
People watched the sky, listened to the news low-key freaking that Christmas was coming.
And the government didn't say nothing.
