Love the clever decoy movement by Musah ahead of the USMNT's opener against Canada. His run draws Shaffelburg towards him, allowing Freeman to fully exploit the 3v2 overload, with that action serving as the catalyst that kickstarts the move.

edwardstratmann.bsky.social @edwardstratmann.bsky.social · 07/10/2026

A nice example of the USMNT using their build-up overload to find the free man behind Canada's first line of pressure, with some slick passing and movement enabling Raines to receive facing forward.

Messi produced plenty of moments of class in his farewell game for Argentina. What a legend.

edwardstratmann.bsky.social @edwardstratmann.bsky.social · 05/10/2026

Scaloni's Argentina are consistently one of the best teams to follow. Their fluid rotations, sharp passing combinations, relentless attacking mindset and outstanding quality across the pitch combine to make them a fine watch.

Pochettino on Malik Tillman: "Malik is a player that can play in every single position. I think the only position that maybe Malik cannot play is keeper, similar to Harry Kane."

Another neat set piece by the Sounders here, as they cluster centrally and smartly block and screen opponents to free up Kingston arriving from the blindside at the back post, who unleashes a clean strike.

000

edwardstratmann.bsky.social @edwardstratmann.bsky.social · 02/10/2026

Effective set-piece routine by the Sounders. They cleverly create a 3v2 to open the lane to Kingston, while Seattle's occupation of the box pins SKC deep and opens up the space for him to unleash his shot.

Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting showcased his class for RBNY through his outstanding back-to-goal play, using his slick movement, hold-up work, neat one-and-two-touch combinations and clever flicks to link attacks to give his side an excellent outlet.

Insane pass by star Brazilian striker Rafael Navarro, who somehow picked out his teammate with the ball behind him.

011

edwardstratmann.bsky.social @edwardstratmann.bsky.social · 01/10/2026

St. Louis beat the press easily by going long to Navarro, whose all round class makes him a top outlet. Matan drifting wider to evade Sofo created a 2v1 to aid progression, while Wallem's rotation with Holse allowed him to receive freely between the lines.

edwardstratmann.bsky.social @edwardstratmann.bsky.social · 01/10/2026

Irvine on the Socceroos being more brave in possession: “I think that’s really exciting to see that we have added that to our game. We still run, defend and have that part of our game. But the desire to run, to get on the ball, to break pressure, to get yourself free, fantastic.”

000

edwardstratmann.bsky.social @edwardstratmann.bsky.social · 01/10/2026

Sublime play by Brazil, as their slick combination play and third and fourth man movements were the catalysts for their third goal against the Socceroos. A joy to watch in full flight.

edwardstratmann.bsky.social @edwardstratmann.bsky.social · 01/10/2026

Nice by the USMNT to bypass Chile via their midfield 3v2 to find the free man, with Berhalter cleverly attracting the attention of his marker to allow Mehmeti to receive freely and turn instantly. Love the scanning by Mehmeti so he knows he can turn as soon as he receives.

The USMNT's third goal against Peru was brilliant. The technical precision was superb.

010

edwardstratmann.bsky.social @edwardstratmann.bsky.social · 27/09/2026

Another example of the USMNT overloading their right to create an opening against Peru. Excellent quick combination play in close proximity, slick movement and short passing distances were vital in helping them find the free man to play through their opponents.

020

edwardstratmann.bsky.social @edwardstratmann.bsky.social · 27/09/2026

Bellingham's passing was a real highlight vs Spain. His vision, awareness, two-footedness and execution helped animate many an attack.

010

edwardstratmann.bsky.social @edwardstratmann.bsky.social · 27/09/2026

The USMNT's right-sided overloads against Peru were a key weapon, allowing them to break down opponents on the near side or switch play to the far flank to Miller using the overload-to-isolate principle.

010

edwardstratmann.bsky.social @edwardstratmann.bsky.social · 26/09/2026

The Socceroos consistently bypassed Brazil's press through their intelligent movement and crisp passing in build-up. A major highlight from an impressive all-round display.

Sublime pass by Bruno Guimarães to set up a chance for Vini Jr. Love the deception with his body and eyes, plus the timing and execution to wait for the space to open before taking seven Australian players out of the equation. Such a class act.

Quality ShadowPlay by Moylan in the build-up to Cardiff's opener, as he then bursts forward to receive Salech's layoff before scoring.

022

edwardstratmann.bsky.social @edwardstratmann.bsky.social · 23/09/2026

Cardiff forming a wide 4v3 and bypassing Charlton was the catalyst for their second goal, as it allowed them to switch play and open up the opposite side for Moylan before Salech eventually scored.

010

edwardstratmann.bsky.social @edwardstratmann.bsky.social · 23/09/2026

Cardiff's corner routine generated a 3v1 overload, with multiple Charlton players blocked deep, allowing Robertson to attack the space and get a chance away.

Brilliant up-back-through sequence from the Colorado Rapids to find Whittaker, who forms the overload before slicing through the Sounders. Whittaker's pass is tremendous to play in Aaronson.

030

edwardstratmann.bsky.social @edwardstratmann.bsky.social · 22/09/2026

Neat rotation between Whittaker and Phillip allowed the former the space to break in behind and generate a strong chance.

010

edwardstratmann.bsky.social @edwardstratmann.bsky.social · 21/09/2026

Another classy set piece by Birmingham, as the short corner starts with a 2v1 before evolving into a 3v2 and then a 4v3 at the edge of the box, with them moving the ball crisply to create a solid chance.

000

edwardstratmann.bsky.social @edwardstratmann.bsky.social · 21/09/2026

Excellent movement, coordination and screening by the Sounders ahead of their opener to draw markers away and ensure Roldan was unmarked. Such a well-worked set-piece routine that allowed Roldan to head home freely inside the box.

120

edwardstratmann.bsky.social @edwardstratmann.bsky.social · 21/09/2026

Great scanning by Farkhi to keep tabs on Whittaker's movement and positioning before helping create the extra space his teammate needed to finish with aplomb.

000

edwardstratmann.bsky.social @edwardstratmann.bsky.social · 21/09/2026

Top blocking, screening and movement by Birmingham for their second goal from a corner vs Boro, as Vazquez's run helps create space and their 5v4 overload at the back post ultimately allows them to bundle the ball home. They've been very impressive from dead-ball situations.

000

edwardstratmann.bsky.social @edwardstratmann.bsky.social · 21/09/2026

Nice work by Boro ahead of Arfsten's opener, as overloading the left before rapidly switching play to isolate Cozier-Duberry on the right served as the catalyst that breathed life into the attack.

010

edwardstratmann.bsky.social @edwardstratmann.bsky.social · 21/09/2026

Exquisite line-breaking pass from Malanda, eliminating five Birmingham players in an instant to kickstart an attack that creates a chance.

edwardstratmann.bsky.social @edwardstratmann.bsky.social · 20/09/2026

Nice corner routine for West Ham's equaliser vs Millwall, as they go short to create a 2v1 before Mavropanos slips Cooper to generate a 4v3 at the back post, allowing him to gain the separation needed to power home his header.

000

edwardstratmann.bsky.social @edwardstratmann.bsky.social · 20/09/2026

Dowman's second further underlines what a class act he is, as he regains the ball smartly before moving to the right and timing a superb run to latch onto Zubimendi's pass before finishing with aplomb.

000

edwardstratmann.bsky.social @edwardstratmann.bsky.social · 16/09/2026

Excellent work from Bruno Guimaraes and Arsenal, as he rotates smartly with Merino, creates an overload and times his run perfectly to complete the third-man combination. Receiving on the move and facing forward, he then plays a top through ball to MLS to carve out an opening.

000

edwardstratmann.bsky.social @edwardstratmann.bsky.social · 15/09/2026

Quality sequence from Seattle as Nouhou switches play to Gomez, who'd rotated with Kossa-Rienzi and formed a 2v1. That movement allowed Kossa-Rienzi to underlap into the space, receive the ball and fire in a cross that almost exploits the 2v1 at the back post as LA shifted across.

010

edwardstratmann.bsky.social @edwardstratmann.bsky.social · 15/09/2026

Boro's third goal showed the value of creating a 5v4 overload to stretch Norwich's backline, with opposite movements causing confusion as some players dropped short while others attacked in behind.

000

edwardstratmann.bsky.social @edwardstratmann.bsky.social · 15/09/2026

Nice passage of play by the Sounders to go long, with Nouhou pushing up to create a 2v1 alongside Rothrock against Calegari, ensuring they progressed cleanly into the final third.
