I have some thoughts on how opt in can be crafted to make it more restrictive. Certification may provide some protection against unwanted lawsuits, in a nutshell. Tie it to contract law and consent, at least in indigenous spaces, and you can make noncompliance more costly than compliance.

The difference between now and then is we have a choice. It doesn’t come with diseases and war. Unlike then we can quite literally use this, identify risk, and help shape responsible use policy. Disengagement makes no sense.

I haven’t played it yet. It’s on my list though. The gatekeeping happens in any culture that is afraid of losing its identity. Usually from a place of positive intent. This sadly ends up having a Latin effect, essentially freezing things in a sort of homeostatic state.

Most students do that now. It’s unfortunate. I understand your frustration. I have a company. I push solutions to problems. For us the problem is underfunded, under-seen indigenous creative art and video games. For us AI is an equalizer.

Thats exactly it. It must be nice to have the cultural capital and financial backing to be able to debate these things. If indigenous people go this route though, we will be reduced to set pieces and lazy tropes. We need to get with the program and run this shit, not let it run us.

Exactly. Before I started working on this game I was in medtech and designed a global system with predictive text and other features to improve documentation. This was in 2009-2016. We called it AI. So did everyone else.
