Stone Curlew still present at the south end of Ryall Court Pits, Worcestershire, mid afternoon, showing well to the east of the channel. Also a Whinchat still present on the south west side.

Stone Curlew at Ryall Court Pits this morning was a welcome surprise & a great find by @andywarr.bsky.social Now that gravel extraction has finished, the recent landscaping work done, has for a short window, before being flooded, created a sand & soil habitat, akin to what this species likes.

A juvenile Ruff arrived at about 9.30am at Venus Pools NR, Shropshire to enhance my early morning visit today. Also 4 Green Sand, 1 Common Sand. 2 LRP, 4 Snipe, a young Water Rail, 8+ Little Egret and a Clouded Yellow on the set aside field, which is part of the reserve.

My 1st long distance “twitch” for many years today, was to The Gann Estuary, Pembrokeshire, a successful outing, albeit the Western Reef-Heron did keep me waiting over 3 hours before putting in an appearance.

Glorious morning in the Dowles Brook area of Wyre Forest and the birds duly obliged. Highlights; 3 Pied Flycatcher, 6 Redstart, 3 Tree Pipit, 2 Garden Warbler, 9 Willow Warbler, 13+Blackcap, 14+Chiffchaff, Dipper, Cuckoo, 4+Redpoll and 3+Siskin. Also Wheatear from Heath Lane on the way home.

Great to catch up with the Richardson’s Cackling Goose (half way up banking) with 19 Canada Goose at Ryall Court Pits (RCP) late afternoon and still present at dusk. Also a male Goldeneye. Both species new for the site this year but had eluded me at RCP on their previous visits.

A decent morning birding in south Worcs, 17 Golden Plover with Lapwing at Longdon North Marsh, also Yellowhammer & 10 Shelduck (SU). 38 SU at Ryall Court Pits was a notable count. At Clifton a Curlew flew through & 3 Red Crested Pochard still present, also 34+ Pochard & 30 SU, making 68 SU in total.

Highlights of this morning’s WeBS count at Clifton; 16 Shelduck, 8 Pintail, 4 Pochard, 107 Tufted Duck, 40 Gadwall, 3 Oystercatcher and Green Sandpiper. No Shoveler and lower than expected numbers of Wigeon & Teal suggest that birds are elsewhere on flood water.

Long-tailed Duck still on Clifton north pit this morning, also a late Redstart on the west side of main pit. Sadly found the Marsh Harrier dead on Ashmoor Common, a Whinchat there loosely associating with a couple of Stonechat was more positive.
