And this is why companies need UI/UX experts. Black remote with black buttons - for a “smart” light. Try finding that button in the dark 🤷
Photo of a black remote control, with black buttons on black background. This is the remote control for a “smart” ceiling light.

If only the designers had been just as “smart” and thought about having to find the black “on” button on that black remote when coming home in the dark …

According to #HomeAssistant, I should replace my fridge. Today, it consumed nearly 2.7 GWh. Imagine my electricity bill! To make matters worse, my beers are now too cold, at 5000 Kelvin below absolute zero. Waiting for the Nobel Prize for physics based on my amazing discovery ;-)

I really love @tailscale.com but 20% battery use is a *lot*. Apart from turning it off when not actively using it, is there another way to improve power consumption?

Like I said, the drive motor is a chonky boy ;-)
Rear view of an 8 inch floppy drive, showing the drive motor. It is a chonky motor. The specification reads 220 Volts at 0.15 Amps. This roughly translates to 35 Watts of power consumption. The motor is a large rounded cube, mounted to a very sturdy cast metal frame.

Starting a GreaseWeazle build with 3.5” and 5.25” floppy drives. I had a SCSI enclosure with power supply - ideal for this purpose.
A beige square box that has 2 slots for 5.25” devices such as CD recorders. The top cover is removed, showing a cooling fan in the back panel.

There is a 5.25” beige floppy drive in the bottom slot. The upper slot is vacant, so the electronics of the floppy drive are partially visible.

The front of the box has a wavy pattern for decoration. The bottom right of the front panel has a round power switch.

The project is a work in progress; a 3.5” floppy drive still needs to be mounted in the upper slot.Purple-colored Printed Circuit Board of a GreaseWeazle v4.1, lying on a blue silicone mat.

The PCB shows a flatcable connector on the righthand side, where the floppy drives will be connected.

On the lefthand side there’s a USB-C socket for connecting a PC that runs the floppy imaging software.

The middle of the PCB shows a couple of SMD chips and components including some jumpers to configure the board.
