If you know what all the generated code is actually doing, it's not vibe coding?

At the House of Commons on Thursday evening for the Open UK awards. @universalviewer.io got runner up in the Community Category. An amazing experience and lovely to meet the other nominees.

Opus 4.5 is definitely very good, but it still needs me for lateral thinking, taste, general product vision etc. It's liberating to be able to (finally) concentrate more on these aspects myself.

Google Antigravity is nice - but it needs Opus 4.5 and for it to be able to drive the browser too. Being able to read browser logs on the fly is a definite killer feature over vscode.

Claude Opus 4.5 is *super* good. Had Gemini 3 trying to fix something and it was tying itself in recursive knots. Opus nailed it in one go.

The weird thing is, computers are now getting more like humans. Like, you can be unspecific with them and they'll still understand your intent. And they're essentially tireless and endlessly supportive. You could interpret that book title as how to deal with the emotional shortcomings of humans 😄

Have been trying out GPT-5-Codex for the last couple of weeks. Started getting frustrated with how slow it is, so switched back to Claude Sonnet 4.5. Noticed an immediate improvement in speed, but also more "You're absolutely rights". Thinking time seems to be the fundamental trade-off.

Or creative technologists into product designers. I think one-person agencies can now provide a full service for clients (will talk about this in my upcoming Brighton Web Developers meetup presentation)

Marketplace is a very strong incentive to stay on Facebook. We've bought and sold quite a lot of stuff on there.

Numberblocks by the BBC is worth the license fee on its own. My 3 year old boy gets two episodes a day max and is obsessed with numbers. He's already starting to get an intuition for multiplication.

Yeah, it's great for SVG work. I've created whole clickable prototypes in Figma. They just acquired @payload.dev which I've been using for a while now too, so I anticipate some interesting developments there.

I've just gotten support added for starting a session & loading Google Maps map tiles with NASA-AMMOS/3DTilesRendererJS -- now you'll be able to load Google maps street & satellite data in three.js. Now I have to find time to make demos 😅 🗺️🛰️✨ #threejs #webgl #maps #3dtiles

SVG icon manipulation was what got me using Figma in the first place. Funny that it's also a gateway to using code generation. Once you get comfortable using code generation, you realise you don't actually care about writing tailwind classes etc manually any more.

I've been doing a lot of SVG maps stuff recently. It's really compatible with Figma and "vibe coding". As a dev you feel no guilt using an LLM to generate it as you can't read it anyway. Have tweaked many icons that way.

Gemini kept getting trapped in loops trying to fix typescript errors. Claude seems to see the big picture better, and carefully takes its time to understand everything. Once I switched back to Claude it was almost a relief to see an old reliable friend.

Each model I use in vscode has a different "personality". Have been trying Gemini 2.5 Pro these last few days. It's definitely smart, but compared to Claude 3.7 Sonnet it plays a bit fast and loose, seemingly ignoring file references. Almost like it's prioritising speed over correctness.

The more money "doge" can save the US government, the more they have to spend on Tesla-built robotic Optimus soldiers and SpaceX-built ICBMs. Why bother selling consumer goods when you've got a captive market of tax payers?
010
Ed Silverton @edsilv.com · 25/02/2025
Yeah. I've long had the feeling that consumer goods are just a temporary means to bootstrap to authoritarian world domination. Previously I assumed this only applied to Mars!

Solo full-stack devs being able to out-compete larger agencies due to lower costs while retaining an equivalent quality of execution could be a reality soon.
000
Ed Silverton @edsilv.com · 25/02/2025
Or will client expectations rise due to the greater efficiency (Jevons Paradox)? Even if they do, perhaps solo devs will be able to accommodate them via AI. We become essentially a gateway to an automated workforce governed by an overarching individual's philosophy.

Ed Silverton @edsilv.com · 25/02/2025
@t3.gg's recent video on how tools like react have shifted the limits of what a single developer can do has me thinking about what solo developers will be able to achieve in the years ahead. Will the traditional agency model break down if client expectations are met by a single dev working with AI?

Snapped this today on Devil's Dyke. My son Joseph was drawing on the walls of a (safe) derelict building with a lump of chalk he'd found, then happened to peek out of the window at his mum and little brother.

Although I definitely fall into the "less is more" camp when it comes to this stuff. And creating sensible defaults to work around, as opposed to overly complicating the user experience.

I think the issue was that they wanted an expand/collapse sort of button, as opposed to click and drag to resize.

The amount of text users put in those descriptions varies. In some cases it's not enough space. There's actually an item in the backlog to allow it to be expanded. Happy to consider other approaches though!

Thanks! There are a few fairly minor bugs/tweaks I want to tackle. One big piece of work I've been mulling is to make the custom instance setup easier by removing the Vercel requirement. Firebase now has App Hosting which works well with Nextjs, so we can potentially simplify by using that.
