I don't think I ever got around to putting my trade reviews for Love Never Dies in one place, but a fake movie poster is a great way to do it. This past week has been a whirlwind and I'm so glad the book is out in the world (and I need to keep telling you all about it). bookshop.org/p/books/love...
"Smart and passionately argued, this is a trenchant ode to all things scary and steamy." - Publishers Weekly
"Cole's conversational tone and focused interest yield a work that reads like an illuminating podcast episode." - Library Journal
"An authoritative and accessible journey through horror films that feature romance, written in a conversational tone, with the goal of helping others find connections they might not have seen. This book will ensnare legions of romance and horror fans." - Booklist

I work with a really wonderful team who are so great at championing books and I am very grateful that they devoted a bit of time today to champion mine. Book is out tomorrow and I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed but in a good way.

My finished copies of Love Never Dies showed up yesterday but I was out at a TIFF party and couldn't open the box until today. They are gorgeous! Spot gloss, sprayed edges, endpapers, french flaps... Feeling very spoiled. If you want a copy, preorder everywhere! Out Sept 29.
Me holding a finished copy of my book, Love Never Dies. It's paperback with a black background, and a glossy red cameo with two skeletons in an embrace. Back cover of my book, featuring endorsements from Clay McLeod Chapman, Jamie Flanagan, Emily C. Hughes, and Cynthia Pelayo. Illustrated endpapers, red background with white skeletons doing romance things like holding hands and and movie things like holding a film reel. The inside front cover of my book, which has French flaps (the covers are folded in on themselves to give the illusion of a hardcover jacket).

We went to FanExpo this past weekend and my big purchase was an advance one-sheet for Bram Stoker's Dracula from The Hollywood Canteen. We've been buying posters from Mike for years and I was delighted to find this (I have a small French advance for the same movie).

I don't have a content warning in Love Never Dies, but I do have a Spoiler Alert! I couldn't write this book without spoiling a bunch of movies, so be forewarned. I do have a handy @letterboxd.social list of all the films I discuss, so you can watch before the book comes out: boxd.it/GGvGA
Spoiler Alert: if you're familiar with the romance genre, you'll be aware of the term "HEA," or Happily Ever After. It would be impossible to discuss the romance in these horror movies without considering the full narrative, which of course includes the ending, plot twists, and other aspects of the story. I'm one of those people who doesn't find spoilers to be a problem, because I'm more interested in how the story is told than what is being told. So, if you're spoiler averse, be forewarned! I hope you can skip over those films that are new to you and still enjoy the rest of the book. I've included a list of all the movies I discuss throughout Love Never Dies, so do yourself a favor and watch these fantastic films, then come back and read more about them.

Ben is not on Bluesky, so I'm going to post for him. The Gravity of Us is a radically hopeful, beautiful, compelling queer love story set against the backdrop of space exploration. There's mystery and romance and labour organizing (!) and SO. MUCH. YEARNING. I love it so much and I hope you do too!

The only appropriate shirt for today. A lot of people think the weirdness is the point of Lynch's work, but I think it's the truth that is the most important thing. I love the sincerity with which he approached everything. Do some art today. Tell someone they set your socks on fire. Love something.
