My gram in rural Ohio was one of two children of seven that survived it. The eventual vaccine was not readily available until 1920s. What a wretched way to go as well. 050

The story of Hades and Persephone came up as we ate the fruit. Her being tied to the underworld for eating the seeds, and the change of the seasons. 122
