In this topsy turvy world that we have right now, it's reassuring to know that whatever humans inflict on the planet, nature will quietly and slowly just take it back.

Bit of an anti climax but the Vet confirmed today that the two cows showing a reluctance to calve were as suspected empty. Calving therefore finished here 10 days ago giving us 65 thriving calves from the 69 scanned in calf. 🤷‍♂️ We'll not talk about the scanning results. 🙈

One of my favourite cows. £450 from dingwall mart, now 8 and just had her 5th calf. 550kg when soaking wet, and a great temperament on her. Hopefully will be here for a good few years yet.

Another beautiful morning here. We are getting well through calving and it's great to see the new calves enjoying life!

Good news - grass is growing More good news - calving is progressing really well Bad news - calving has progressed so well we are rapidly running out of grass 🙈 Expected to have more cows still in the shed. At some point I might have to admit we calve too early.

Dougal was too idle to walk so hitched a lift in the buggy. He insisted on a selfie and then shat all over the cab. Thanks Dougal!

Fantastically positive #FarmstrongScot social. Some great chat, lots of laughs and a splattering of emotion. Managed to get a bobble hat too to keep the noggin and luggies warm - it's what all the cool kids are wearing!

The farm has been an absolute riot of bird song recently. Set the Merlin app on record yesterday and it picked up this wonderful soul - a first at Edinvale. 🐦

As usual calving has had its ups and downs and the last few days have been challenging. But you can't half enjoy the job when you see contented cows and calves

Really chuffed with our beef that was delivered into our butchery this morning. Great fat cover and ideal size for cutting the perfect steak. 100% Grass fed Shorthorn, this will be dry aged for 30 days before sale. Can't wait! #PastureForLife #ScotchBeef #GrassToGob

And there we go! #calving25 has started. I am notorious for predicting the start of calving and being wrong by a factor of weeks. This year though..... bang on!! Well even a stuck clock is right twice a day!

Awesome day spent getting a bit more engaged with the Environment Baslining Project courtesy of Quality Meat Scotland and AHDB. Amazing to be involved with something positive for the industry and looking forward to seeing what information comes out of it ahdb.org.uk/baselining

Good to run round the cattle today and have a catch up with Suzie who seemed particularly keep to speak to Tilly and get a clap.

Well USA and Canada, you've been awesome. Great to catch up with friends and make new ones. Seen amazing operations and only been detained at a customs border once! Had a brilliant time but definitely ready for home. See y'all!

Going to play a game of Never have I ever. I'll start. Never have I ever gone into an answer abattoir and been talking about soil health within five minutes. Oh oops - that happened today! Fantastic visit to Meatworks in Westport today - great tour and conversation

Delighted to get this fellow home today. Our 3rd bull from @FearnFarm as quite simply the bulls work for us on our Pasture for Life system. Tyrant gives us something different being a slightly thicker bull and with great figures. Only 13 months to see what the calves are like!

Finally got my act together and booked flights for the last of my @NuffieldFarming travels. Off to US and Canada on Sunday. Seriously unprepared to be going but will be great once I get there. 🙏

Thought we would try weaning a group of calves at 10 months rather than 7 as part of a trial to see if we could bring them winter more effectively. Calves look pretty good but weights from 7 months to 10 have remained static as a cohort. Gain of 33g/day with a range of +0.2kg to -0.2kg

There is no doubt about it, the last 12 months have been pretty significant for us at Macbeth's and @EdinvaleFarm. Grateful to all those who have played a part in making it so successful. Wee bit more about it here: www.linkedin.com/pulse/2024-r...

This is our most challenging outwintering area this year. Quite a bit of drainage done and quite soft. Cows and replacement heifers looking well though. Calves should have been weaned 2 weeks ago but might have been a mistake to schedule anything in the run up to Christmas! #agsky

Chuffed with how cows and heifers are looking. Making a good go of the silage and tidying up the grass. Ground holding up well despite the wet. #agsky

And there we have it. The wettest year in the last 10. Thought we would have crossed this line sooner the way it's been going this year. Wonder what the next year will have in store? #agsky
