A new paper out today by the Stanton lab shows that a gene previously known to cause one inherited eye condition, also causes a different form of retinal degeneration, triggered by a separate genetic mutation. edin.ac/4r8otEI

Vendrell lab has developed a new method that allows for fluorescent probes to light up when bound to targets of interest on the cell surface. They identified a lead peptide that could bind to an immune cell target and found the drug avasimibe affects immune cell behaviour important in cancer & MS.

Vendrell lab develops fluorescent dyes that bacteria take up, producing species-specific light signatures. Combined with antimicrobial peptides, this method assigns bacterial species in complex samples, offering a faster approach for diagnostics & targeted antibiotic use. 🗞️ edin.ac/4tBwG3N
