When Indy was founded in 1820/21, many native people had already moved to the north or west under the Treaty of St. Marys. However, there were still individuals and smaller groups who would linger for several years. This post explores that history. www.class900indy.com/post/the-nat...

Some labor history, on this Labor Day. Indianapolis, like many cities in the country, saw a surge in unions and labor organizations in the late 1800s and early 1900s. The city directory for 1880 (left) listed only a few, while in 1904 (right) the list covered almost two pages.

Frog Holler! I think they had some massive storm water projects done down there several years to help with flooding. Not sure that helps when the water is the river itself.

There was a year when the storm sewers overflowed all over BR. I don’t think the canal came out of its banks although it may have been connected to the canal. Water was pouring from manholes and grates. A few businesses sued the city (or Citizens) over that.

Ha! I was being facetious as I enjoy all waterway research. But I was surprised with the limited results I found. It really is not a very long creek, and because it went through a relatively rural area, it did not contribute as much to local industry. But it is a lovely site for expensive homes!
