…and they're dead! Two of my #Zigbee sensors chewed through a couple of AAA batteries in less than two weeks. The other two are still fine. Will see if it was due to dodgy batteries or if something is fucky with them.

Any #Android devs able to explain app file sizes to me? The Firefox APK is about 70MB - but #GrapheneOS reports an install size of 447MB. Why? I get that the browser cache will be large - and I can clear that in the app. But what's the 4GB of "User Data"? […] [Original post on mastodon.social]

Hi Terence,

You cover practical tech and privacy, which are close to what Fieldy’s customers care about when keeping track of conversations and details.

Straight to it, since you cover the kind of tools this belongs next to.

Fieldy is a small AI wearable you wear as a watch or a pendant. It listens to the conversations you have in person, transcribes them in real time, writes the summary, and turns "I'll send that over" into an actual reminder, without you opening anything. Seven days of battery, splash proof, 100+ languages, and a desktop app that catches your online meetings too. Audio isn't stored after processing. It's for people who agree to things out loud and then lose them, which turns out to be most people.

I'd like to put one on your neck (or wrist) for a couple of weeks, no obligation, so you can see whether it's worth your audience's time. If it is, the program on Impact pays $40 per sale and I'll keep you supplied for comparisons or giveaways.

A little bit of politics at the London Museum of Water and Steam.
The beginning of the end

Despite making huge profits the water compani
had not lived up to their promises. The quality
of the water was still variable and the amount
being pumped sometimes left homes and
businesses without water. The companies'
focus on profits rather than service was
a major worry and so the government
decided to get involved.

In 1904 the government created the Metropolitan Water Board
and bOught the eight water companies to create a single
network covering the whole of London. It became clear
that the ageing Kew Bridge Water Works did not fit into
their plans and so investment in this site came to a halt.
Whilst other water pumping sites were being modernised,
Kew limped on with the same equipment for several decades.

Not content with gobbling up every printed book, the AI now wishes to feast on your company's private code base.
What we're looking for
Right now, that means connecting AI companies with real, private codebases from companies like yours, production code that reflects how your team actually builds software. If your company owns its codebase outright, this could be a new revenue stream from an asset you already have.

How it works
The process is low-friction, you don't have to hand over any code before knowing roughly what it's worth: You run a couple of free tools on your end to get a rough size and quality estimate (no code ever leaves your systems), we give you a ballpark quote, and if it's a fit, we handle the rest of the process.

Compensation
Every deal is priced individually based on size and quality, but past codebases have been licensed for anywhere between $10,000 and $100,000, depending on scope and complexity.

Privacy
You stay fully in control of what you share. Nothing leaves your systems until you've decided to move forward, and everything from there is governed by our terms and a formal licensing agreement.

If this could be relevant for your company, I'd be happy to walk you through it and answer any questions.
