Tropical Storm #Isaias has formed in the western Gulf and is expected to become the first hurricane of the 2026 season in the Atlantic Basin. If you have interests from the Florida Panhandle to eastern Louisiana, pay attention to this one. Current forecasts project the storm to be a Category 2.

Radar imagery continues to show areas of rain and showers across much of Newfoundland at this hour of the morning. The most widespread and intense activity has been, and continues to be, over the eastern sections. Most of this activity will end by 8 or 9 AM. #nlwx

Radar shows an area of very intense rainfall at the mouth of Placentia Bay that is moving toward the north-northeast and will arrive over western parts of the Avalon and the Trinity Bay area within the next few hours. It will also scrape the eastern side of the Burin Peninsula. #nlwx

An area of heavy rainfall and embedded thunderstorms is currently located over the Burin Peninsula and the western side of Placentia Bay. This cluster is moving toward the northeast and most of the lightning activity looks to be in the southern part of this cluster for the time being. #nlwx

In short-range weather forecasts, I strongly dislike using terms like could and should instead of will. However, with a low passing tonight and Saturday, parts of the Avalon could see some snow in that time frame... or virtually none. I put more weight into the RDPS in this time frame. #nlwx
