I've written before about the case for ephemeral workstations, and more recently about how I use Ubuntu Server, Herdr, Mosh and Tailscale. The whole setup is basically what is called a Thin client. In computer networking, a thin client is a simple, low-... www.eddiedale.com/blog/thin-client

The last year I have been experimenting a lot with my computer setup. I used both Omakub and Omarchy for a while, and even tried Windows(!) and plain Ubuntu. All of the experimenting inevitably made me end up with... www.eddiedale.com/blog/a-macbook-st…

I've had the joy of bringing a few sites live the last days, and needed a simple way to see the DNS propagation happening. So I just wrote a note-to-self post about it. www.eddiedale.com/blog/listening-fo…

I wonder if the price hikes across the board on tech (memory, storage etc.) result in an increased focus on longevity and using devices for longer. If so, I'm here for it. www.eddiedale.com/blog/price-hikes-…

Bastian Allgeier talked about brain lock-in on a recent(ish) podcast, and the idea stuck with me. Overly relying on AI for tasks reduce my natural ability to solve it without. www.eddiedale.com/blog/think-harder

This one can easily backfire in two years, no? 😅

Reminds me a bit of the over-usage of machines by Tesla about 10 years ago. As Musk himself said then "humans are underrated".

I think that part is fairly solvable. But sure, it definitely would have both pros and cons.

Fair enough, probably good reasons against it. Either way just a simple opinion from my side. In my head the PDS and main client sharing a name feels natural.

imo mu.social would be better named simply as eurosky.social as an official client. I get that mu is just one of potentially many apps, but it feels like the main one(?), is a better name, and would feel more coherent and similar to how bluesky does it.

Swapping from Bluesky to Eurosky was seamless, and I'm now using mu.social as my default client. Really cool to see all this development! I'm starting to understand the appeal of ATProto.

Also sat with a proper soldering station in a different cart considering to try myself on the task of reflowing the part. But I think the chances of me messing that up were too high for that to be a sustainable choice.

Disassembled and sent the main board of my LG Ultrafine monitor to (private) repairs. Was very close to giving up on it (LG not helpful), and sat with a Studio Display in the cart. But ordering a new monitor doesn't fix the waste of an unusable but otherwise perfectly fine old monitor.

I've made an Omarchy inspired MacOS setup with Aerospace, JankyBorders and Sketchybar that gives a taste of the window tiling-workflow. www.eddiedale.com/blog/my-mac-...

PHP CMSs compared part 3. Some people have commented that my previous tests have been unfair and crap, so I've done some further tests.
