Back in NYC, finding my way into the rhythms of my community. ❤️ My neighbors are creative, resourceful, and always finding ways to care for one another. Is it possible to build community without defining ourselves in opposition to someone else?

As we mark Juneteenth, Pride, and World Refugee Day, we must remember our struggles are connected. Ten years ago, I was detained at Elizabeth Detention Center. The systems harming immigrants, LGBTQ people, and communities of color are interconnected. Our movements must be too.

Honored to take the ceremonial first kick at Pride Night for Brooklyn FC at Maimonides Park. Being celebrated for being yourself and helping your community has a pretty good ring to it. ⚽🏳️‍🌈

As a soccer fan growing up in Nigeria, I always dreamed of seeing the World Cup. Now the World Cup is coming to the country where I live, and I still can’t afford a ticket. The prices are completely out of reach for fans.

In a time when so much feels uncertain, we cannot lose sight of those navigating systems that were never designed for their safety or dignity. LGBTQ+ asylum seekers continue to face barriers that demand both attention and action. Read more: lnkd.in/eCS7m9E8

Two Americans died at the hands of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. That wasn’t why Kristi Noem was fired. The problem was an ad that didn’t mention Donald Trump. This administration doesn’t care about Americans. It’s not just anti-immigrant.

We have been urging Columbia University to stand up for students’ rights and become a sanctuary campus. The arrest of a student in a Columbia residential building is exactly why we’ve been mobilizing and organizing. The University must fight for this student’s release.

Columbia is a community, but it is failing to ensure its students and neighbors feel safe. I refuse to accept a university that creates a climate of fear. It is time to protect our international students. ICE out of Columbia. ICE out of our homes.

It’s 2026. Are we really still blaming migrants in NYC for the budget deficit? This ignores the real issue: gross mismanagement and lack of fiscal discipline by the Adams administration. The Comptroller’s Office has repeatedly warned about bad contract practices by the Adams Administration.

Electoral politics is only one piece of the puzzle. We cannot rely on politicians alone. The silence on ICE raids and proposed cuts to sanctuary cities and nonprofits providing lifesaving care shows why deep base building matters. We protect each other.

What happened in Minneapolis is unacceptable. The fatal shooting of Renee Nicole Good by ICE is a horrifying escalation. Renee should be here to speak for herself; we cannot accept a single-sided narrative. We demand full transparency and accountability.

We’ve already lost the debate on democracy. You can’t claim to lead the free world when your diplomatic strategy is unilateral war. "There should be no bloodshed—especially in a world with 180M+ displaced people.”

My goal in running for office was to challenge the influence of dark money in our politics—and that fight doesn’t end with one election. I’ll be back to represent my community. The 2025 political cycle showed us what’s possible, including the historic election of Zohran as Mayor.

On this longest night of the year, we honor National Homeless Memorial Day and remember the unnamed poor and unhoused, men, women, and children, laid to rest in potter’s fields across this country and around the world. True solidarity demands a new society and a new way of being human.

This year has been heavy for so many families across our city. As we close it out, I’m holding the New York we all love close to my chest. Our city can be better, fairer, and more welcoming. In 2026, we keep fighting for all of us and especially for our immigrant communities.

Firing people, especially comedians, for airing their opinions is meant to scare everyday people from speaking out. It’s a page from the authoritarian playbook, and it’s a scare tactic we must resist.
