What causes obesity? The science tells a different story from the stereotypes. 🧬 Genetics matter. 👶 Risk can begin early in life. 🥗 Our bodies respond differently to food and our environment. Obesity is a chronic, relapsing disease shaped by complex factors, not a personal choice. #Obesity

What others say about us can eventually shape how we see ourselves. Weight stigma can affect healthcare, work, relationships and self-esteem. When stigma becomes internalized, it can lead to shame, self-blame, anxiety and isolation. Obesity is a chronic disease. Stigma is not treatment.

The first oral GLP-1 medicine approved in the EU gives people living with obesity another treatment option. Choice matters. So does ensuring treatment is part of comprehensive obesity care, alongside healthy lifestyle changes, ongoing medical support and equitable access for all. #ECPO #Obesity

After France became the first EU country to reimburse obesity management medication, the US Medicare has followed. Good news, but obesity is a chronic disease that needs lifelong, integrated care and comprehensive, person-centred support, not a standalone solution. #AddressingObesityTogether

A new Lancet study suggests Chile's food labeling and marketing restrictions may have modestly reduced childhood obesity. Encouraging findings, but with important caveats. As always in obesity policy, hopeful signals and definitive proof are not the same thing.
