Dr Dave @ecosystemunraveller.com · 03/10/2026There’s so much beauty. Some fragile and fleeting, some lasting and deep. Pausing to recognise that whenever I can helps me to keep on keeping on. Reminds me why I do this. 2200
Dr Dave @ecosystemunraveller.com · 03/10/2026When I went to check on the poultry, water was sheeting into the chook pen. I’d cleverly left the rake there completely on purpose and, with vigorous scraping, freed months of caked on duck shit. All rinsed off. What’s that thing about never letting a crisis go to waste? Look at those bricks now! 1151
Dr Dave @ecosystemunraveller.com · 03/10/2026There’s life in the air. New growth on trees, massed blossoms pulsating with bees and flies. Warm and wet is an uncommon combo where we are. Until now. Lots of breeding activity and new arrivals. So much growth, potential you can see unfurling… 190
Dr Dave @ecosystemunraveller.com · 03/10/2026On the domestic front, one of our outbuildings flooded—the laundry. All sorted, no dramas, but only because we had installed cut-off drains all the way around the house when we finished extending it. Animals are all fine, loving it, and the wildlife likewise—everything is thriving. 2151
Dr Dave @ecosystemunraveller.com · 03/10/2026We had 83mm of rain yesterday, first decent drop after four weeks of no rain. Very welcome but quite intense—half of that fell in less than an hour. Water sheeting everywhere, dams overflowing. I realised just how much we need to learn if we want to keep living in an increasingly energetic world… 1508
Dr Dave @ecosystemunraveller.com · 03/10/2026Dams still overtopping but fences, beasts and buildings all bueno. 0121

Dr Dave @ecosystemunraveller.com · 19/09/2026Gave the plenary address at the Birdlife Shoalhaven Bird Haven Festival. Here, I’m using one month of daily species richness estimates from acoustic sensors to quantify turnover. In this woodland, what we detected any day is less than half of what’s there in a month—that’s a lot of turnover! 1253
Dr Dave @ecosystemunraveller.com · 16/09/2026She’s settling in so well. And she now has a name—Stella! 010
Dr Dave @ecosystemunraveller.com · 14/09/2026Morning all. Just had three swans fly over, infrequent visitors to our place… 2241
Dr Dave @ecosystemunraveller.com · 14/09/2026We just got a new dog—just look at this little scamp! She’s 12 weeks old, a Cardigan Welsh Corgi X Lagotto Romagnolo to keep a close eye on our poultry from marauding foxes. In related news, will be chatting with @dontattempt.bsky.social just after 8 about all things doggo. 7682
