According to a report that the American Academy of Arts and Sciences published Tuesday, colleges and universities in the United States awarded 164,847 bachelor’s degrees in the humanities in 2025—the lowest number since 1991. That total represents a 30.4 percent decline since 2012, when humanities degrees were at the height of their popularity.
