Not sure when +50K jobs has ever been described as "solid gain" outside of maybe a post recession recovery.

Nothing, I thought, could demolish my ego like graduate school. Then I became a parent, where the longer your string of successes the bigger the sense of failure when things go even just a little awry.

Me at 16 years old: Hey, I better read John Locke, Thomas Paine, Thomas Hobbes, Jean Rousseau, Henry Thoreau.... because understanding the philosophical underpinnings and nuances of the new American democracy will be very important in the future! Society in 2025: Get bent, NERD!

This headline is wild. Such passivity despite the words describing several constitutional and international crises.

You can tell the people who haven't had to deal with daycare pickup/drop-off by their response to the videos. "Why wouldn't they LET HIM IN?!" Bro, they don't even let parents inside the building without at least 24 hr prior authorization.

The mortgage fraud claim against Lisa Cook is false, per documents obtained by Reuters. Bill Pulte's accusation, the sole pretext Trump used to fire her from the Fed, was that she claimed two homes as primary residence. These docs show she did not. www.reuters.com/world/us/fed...

Exclusive: Fed Governor Cook declared her Atlanta property as “vacation home,” documents show
A loan estimate for an Atlanta home purchased by Lisa Cook, the Federal Reserve governor accused of mortgage fraud by the Trump administration, shows that Cook had declared the property as a “vacation home,” according to a document reviewed by Reuters.

I was born in 1985. I like to describe this experience as, "born in the 80s but remember the 70s." I cannot fully explain it, but that description feels perfect. Black and white TVs, rotary phones, beta-max, drunk driving as socially acceptable behavior.

One of the things I was not prepared for was extent simply holding to account a president over decorum would be considered silly political correctness, so much that a so-called hostile press seems to largely turn a blind eye. POTUS called the Fed Bank Chairman "stupid." And it wasn't even a story.

I'm slowing realizing the only way people will ever accept replacing human customer service with AI is to get them so used to terrible service they will willfully accept the high propensity of error in AI service functions (e.g. insurance denials) because it will seem no worse.

I was there for MK from the jump. It was culturally significant in ways I cannot explain. I had 3 xmases of MK, MKII, MKIII Ultimate for the SNES as THE gifts I wanted. Passing notes of fatalities, blood codes, Reptile, Smoke, "Toasty!" Cinematically this might be manure, but I'll love it still.

Andreessen is a literal billionaire. I just recently and barely became net positive in assets at the age of 40. For my entire adult life I've felt nothing but stupefying and unearned privilege despite being from a broken home absent any college degrees. What the hell is Andreessen whining about?!

While many people seem to verbally acknowledge the difficulties of being a parent, my personal experience is that non-parents don't seem to have a clue the time it takes to have a kid and a lot of parents don't seem to extend much grace to other parents. It's more isolating than I expected.

The overarching idea most consistently in my head while watching The Bear, other than how much I love it, is: Is every aspect of your job-process, philosophy, personality, quality, quantity, delivery, and wage rate- meticulously scrutinized and criticized publicly? Welcome to being a professor.

I'd certainly love to dissect and debate the merits of Mamdani's proposals, including which I disagree with. But as long as elected officials are floating denaturalization, what is the point of even trying? At this point, I want him to win mayor just to spite that level of insanity we're seeing.

It is pretty wild how all the dudes I went to HS with who didn't read more than one page of text the entire time get the exact same level of electoral influence on economic policy as me. That doesn't bother me at all, certainly has never kept me up at night wondering what the hell it was all worth!

The clear subtext here is they expect a contraction. Otherwise, you don't get inflation and a need to cut rate targets.

That's pretty on brand. In my 8 years in NYC I had a landlord who slashed my bike tires, sent threatening texts, and eventually stood outside our window one night, belligerently drunk, and yelled at my wife about how he was going to kick us out. And we had a hole in our roof the entire time.

It's an interesting worldview for a billionaire to have. In his mind, his avarice is smart, genetic, deserved. He repeatedly admits this. But now you see he feels completely comfortable limiting the material benefit to others, and in this case children.

I wonder if folks will ever be open to the conversation about how there are huge swathes of people who functionally don't sleep well and are in a ubiquitous haze from lack of sleep, and arguably are exerting even more effort to accomplish the same goals as "good sleepers."
