In a 🆕 working paper, our colleagues highlight the ways in which #tobacco control can support long-term #economic development in #China 🇨🇳 Tobacco control promotes healthier aging, ⬆️ productivity, household savings, & more, while tobacco taxes also generate sustainable government revenue 📈

In the #Philippines 🇵🇭, alcohol tax increases are not outpacing income growth & inflation 📉 Instead, raising the tax on beer by 10% and & spirits by 25% each year would: - ⬇️consumption of spirits by ~4% & beer and alcopops by ~1%, while - ⬆️ tax revenue by PHP 22 billion.

In #Pakistan🇵🇰, revenue lost from illicit #cigarettes is substantial, but much lower than industry estimates🔎 Social Policy and Development Centre find: -34% of consumption is illicit, incl. 7.2B sticks produced locally & -revenue lost from illicit trade is Rs 115.6B, not Rs 400B as industry claims.
