Spring ephemeral roundup - 1 Bloodroot (Sanguinaria canadensis) - 2 Blue Cohosh (Caulophyllum thalictroides) - 3 Yellow Trout Lily (Erythronium americanum) - 4 White Trillium (Trillium Grandiflorum). Did you know that bloodroot seeds are ant-dispersed (myrmecochory)? I love their clasping leaves.

Two white flowers among leaf litter with seven petals each, yellow stamens and anthers prominent. Gently scalloped leaves are still curled around the stems. Bloodroot (Sanguinaria canadensis)

A hand with blue fingernails holds a young barberry leaf, shaped like a dinosaur foot. Blue Cohosh (Caulophyllum thalictroides)

A slightly blurred picture of a yellow trout-lily flower in a backdrop of gray trees and brown leaves. Yellow Trout Lily (Erythronium americanum)

A white trillium flower (three petals) with a small bee pollinating. White Trillium (Trillium Grandiflorum)

What a great feature! Everyone should go toggle "require alt text before posting" on under "Accessibility" in the Settings menu.

Accessibility setting showing a toggle button in the "activate" position for "Require alt text before posting".

Alert at the top of a Bluesky post/skeet: "One or more images is missing alt text."

me: oh I'm so sad to leave my cat with my parents between tgiving and xmas! my mom to my dad: "I think we need to get a tree early for Izzy" the next day: “I think Izzy would be really happy if you put up the lights” every day since: "Izzy is still under the tree" "She loves loves loves the tree"

a small tabby cat with white chest and paws sits below a christmas tree. The tree is covered in colored lights and has a santa-themed tree skirt with plaid edging.

Spent some time in White Sands National Park this weekend! Boy, was this place epic!

A lone tree with yellowing leaves stands in a sea of white sand, with some shrubs off in the distance. The sky is a brilliant blue.

Two soapweed yucca (short plants with a splay of leaves) in the foreground of a white desert landscape. The bush on the right has a long flower stalk with mature seed pods reaching out towards the blue sky.

White dunes at sunset. A "V" of mountains frames a ray of late sunlight.

so I went to insectapalooza and it was exactly as paloozy as I expected 🐞🕷️🪲🦋

A large banner with many arthropod pictures that reads "cornell entomology INSECTAPALOOZA"

A large green balloon sculpture of a praying mantis.

A white board with many drawings of arthropods. Most are beetles and butterflies. A large manta ray (not an arthropod) flies in from above, labeled "George totally a bug".

A large red-kneed tarantula sits on a piece of wood within a plastic tank with a green lid. The tarantula is facing the viewer.

oh, she's a charmer all right. i have spent too much time thinking about this but I've landed on "pact of the chan warlock but her familiar is, like, a wine cork or a cockroach"

a tabby cat stretches her paws towards the camera, toes splayed. She is lying on a blue rug and her paws are out of focus.

a calico tabby rolls on her back on a blue rug in front of a brown couch. She has white paws and chest.

Folks with websites w a section for decolonization/values/DEI materials, what do you call that tab? I haven't quite landed on a title that I like -- it used to be "decolonization" but then I added things outside that scope & would like room to add future DEI/antiracism/anticolonialism content.
