I never expected to make such a close connection to my childhood comics reading the Rosa collection . Here's the bits of the story Barks wrote that Rosa retconned a beginning to decades later. Amazing! 7/7
Scrooge retrieves his long-ago hidden shares: 10th bottle from the floor, 8th row from the right.Scrooge confronts the last McViper. And demands $2 for the two patches he had to make for McVipers shooting his hat: once in 1898 and again in 1965. Apparently inflation didn't affect the price of hat patches.

Rosa became the second most revered Disney duck writer/artist after Barks, so I learned his name, even though he was creating stories (I wasn't reading) while I was an adult. When I saw the collection up at the top for so cheap a price, I figured it would be worth it. 6/

But there was no Internet back then, so I had no way of knowing who created those Disney comics I read and reread throughout my childhood. Later I learned of Don Rosa. He was a huge fan of Barks and got the job of creating Uncle Scrooge comics. He built on the legacy Barks built. #DonRosa 5/

Even though I stopped reading Disney comics once I started reading superheroes as a teen, I couldn't help but eventually learn Barks' name just from being in the sphere of comic fandom. 4/

Disney comic books were uncredited back then. Not that it mattered, because as a child I wouldn't have read the credits. But comic fans from the generation before me noticed Barks' stories because they were well drawn and written. Eventually his name became known to fans. 3/

A couple weeks ago, I found that 1975 comic in my parents' basement! I thought it had been taken out by a basement flood. It reprints an Uncle Scrooge story from a decade earlier by Carl Barks, "the Good Duck Artist." #CarlBarks 2/
Uncle Scrooge #122, dated September 1975. Art by Carl Barks. "Enhanced colors" by school-age me. It reprints Uncle Scrooge #65 (March 1965).

Reading the stores in this Uncle Scrooge collection I bought a couple months ago, I got to this sequence of Scrooge hiding railroad stocks in a bottle of a bottle house. I thought, "Wait.... I'm pretty sure I had the comic where he retrieved those when I was a kid." #ComicSky 🧵 1/
In 1898, Uncle Scrooge hides $50 worth of shares in the Goldopolis and Boom City Railroad in a bottle of a bottle house so the McViper Clan won't steal them. He forgets to go back for them. (Bottle houses are real things, although I don't know how frequently they've ever been built.)

Then he discovers the McViper Clan shot his hat and chases them, demanding $1 for the patch he'll have to buy for it. By Don Rosa.

I found a Marvel Legends @romspaceknight.bsky.social figure at a closeout store last week. I ordered two—one to open and one to stay in the package—as soon as it was released, but I still haven't opened one. This one has already had the package cut, but was complete, so....
Marvel Legends Rom meets Parker Brothers Rom.

#VintageToyTuesday Hot Wheels Streex. This short-lived Hot Wheels* line came out when I was in college. They intrigued me enough to buy. Then I just never got rid of them. *Ironic, since they don't have wheels.
Three Streex "cars" (purple, orange, and black) with two launchers. They have no wheels, just flat bottoms, and glide just over the floor when launched.

Huh. I had people give me their old video game consoles and games, as that's another hobby of mine. But that hasn't happened with CDs, but I've only lately started putting it out there that I'm amassing them. Although my mother did, this morning, talk about me going through her CDs.

Sorry, that's what *I* also meant. My collection has mostly come from thrift stores, estate sales, yard/garage sales, and used record stores. Some, of course, were bought new early on. Oh, and there was a brief period where I was buying brand new CDs from Sam's Club.

Rom's service is perhaps unique for being temporary. (You're the expert on that, I believe.) But I think it was also the first time a planet ever defeated Galactus' sitting herald. So I consider him a temporary or fill-in herald. (And Marvel will never acknowledge it graphically due to licensing.)

["Game Player's" matches the logo of the '90s video game magazine. And, in fact, it's from the same company.]

I paid for a meal partially with Susan B's at a mall Taco Bell like 20 years ago because the post office stamp machines used to give them as change. I started to explain them to the cashier, who was probably a teen, but she just silently showed them to the manager behind her and he nodded.

Ah, a new site to use to check things. Thanks! Absolutely, it was country by country. All Australian versions I've seen are Atari branded. South Africa had that too. In Germany and Finland, Atari hired local singers to do cover versions translated into the local languages.

Yes, okay, you're on to my theory. "Pac-Man Fever" was released by Columbia in Dec 1981 in the U.S. Not sure when in the U.K., but as far as I can tell, it was not a hit. Atari 2600 Pac-Man was released in Mar 1982. I think Atari repurposed promo discs with new sleeves to publicize it.

The seller says he "found it in a shop" and knows nothing more. With further research, I've developed a working theory of what this is and why this sleeve is relatively rare. But I want to ponder and research more before I share it. 2/2

I'm not sure if you're accusing the seller or me of faking this. If it helps, here's the original auction (www.ebay.com/itm/40721176...). The photos in the post are ones I made after it arrived. I believe it's legit because it would be insane to go to this much trouble for so little profit. 1/2

Buckner & Garcia only re-recorded it because Columbia won't release the masters! (If they even still have them.)

There were no other songs when the single was released! Buckner & Garcia released a 45 themselves (with the instrumental) in Oct '81. Once it caught on, Columbia picked it up and released an identical 45 in Dec '81. The album was Jan '82. In Italy they put "Froggy's Lament" on the B side.

I am aware, however, of the U.K. commercial for the Atari 2600 version of Pac-Man that uses the song as background music. So I know Atari made some sort of deal with CBS Records for cross-promotion. And not just in the U.K. youtu.be/ihHMR855PBw

The record seems identical to one version of the non-picture sleeve one (minus the "promo only" text). The back of the sleeve duplicates text (and borrows art from) from the Atari 2600 Pac-Man instruction book. 🤔❓

This arrived yesterday from an eBay seller. A version of the "Pac-Man Fever" 45 from the U.K. in a picture sleeve. I'VE NEVER SEEN THIS SLEEVE BEFORE. As far as Google and Discogs are concerned, THIS DOESN'T EXIST! If you can prove otherwise, please do.
Pretty standard "Pac-Man Fever" screen photo, except the title text is white instead of yellow. And the "Buckner & Garcia" is placed differently than any other I've seen (IIRC). Someone marked it "31689," presumably for some sort of tracking. It goes off the rails on the back. Most of the sleeve reproduces the "Life in Mazeland" section of the Atari 2600 game manual. The white label version of the U.K. single with a giant, orange A on it. I presume to tell you this is side A. It also has "31689" written on it.Side B, with the instrumental version.
