The trade deficit has actually increased

On Tuesday, the US Census Bureau released advance data showing the US trade deficit in goods jumped 9.6% to $162 billion in March, up from $147.8 billion in February. While the March deficit isn’t yet finalized, it would be a record high at those levels and suggests that US businesses may have stockpiled goods ahead of Trump’s April tariff announcement.

It's important to remember that Uber and Lyft are competitors, and we shouldn't rule out the possibility that one of them will fuck the other over at the last minute to double their market share in Minneapolis (or that this is all just posturing and they'll both stay).

Below is an image that show a game theory matrix showing different outcomes if either or both of Lyft and Uber leave Minneapolis instead of paying higher wages. The outcome where both leaves Minneapolis is "Forego Hundreds of Millions in Revenue to Make a Point to Other Cities" where if either party stays when the other leaves the company that stays "Doubles MSP Revenue at Reduced Margin" and if they both decide to stay "Continue to Make Hundreds of Millions in Revenue at a Reduced Margin" is the final possible outcome.

We're leaving Minneapolis
Conner, despite our efforts and your support, the Minneapolis City Council passed an ordinance that would make rides on the Lyft platform unaffordable for the majority of Minneapolis residents. This drastic drop in rides means the thousands of drivers who rely on the platform for earnings will ultimately earn less, creating an unsustainable situation for our customers.

As a result, starting May 1, Lyft will be forced to stop offering rides in Minneapolis and you will no longer be able to request rides with Lyft that start or end in the city.

We'll continue to advocate for rideshare policies in Minnesota that create sustainable solutions that work for both drivers and riders. Thank you for your continued support.
