i’ve decided to start becoming an ardent defender of Daft Punk’s Human After All album. I didn’t like it growing up, but it’s obviously just as much dance music as anything else in the discography. I think it gets a bad rap because of how minimal the songs are, which is what makes it so great

Some personal news:

Hi, it’s Meys. Let me cut to the chase: Cartoon won’t be the next Echo Vessel album, and it won’t be coming in 2026.

I’ve been working on this record since 2020, and over time, I’ve gotten more and more protective of these songs to the point where I won’t release them unless they’re perfect or the way I imagine them in my mind. With that comes a feeling of being super locked in by this set of songs; when I put out New Music in 2023, I characterized it as a detour from the album, that I was getting this out of my system and needed to get back to the main event… big ol’ anxious perfection!!! That’s not good for my mental!!!

In addition to that, as this year has progressed and I’ve done things like the Echo Vessel DJ sets and a (forthcoming) relaunch of neo-detritus, I’ve also found myself getting ideas for new music projects that seem to be taking up the front slots of my mind where Cartoon should be, so I think I’m going to shake off the cobwebs, bring some new ideas into the brain, and chase those for a bit instead.

This doesn’t mean Cartoon is canceled or anything grim like that - the project is far enough along, Ala has made some beautiful art, I’ve been attached to these songs for so long - I just need some time to focus on other ideas before returning to it later. It's still very much in stasis, like John Halo or whatever.

Sorry for the potentially disappointing Friday news drop. I’ll be announcing some DJ streams soon, and I hope to have some new music out sooner rather than later. Hope you’ll stick around. Love you, bye.
