Notice how none of this actually engages with the show in question and just spouts whataboutisms. "Oh, why wasn't this xyz?" Think about this way: the last time we had a GL that attempted a space opera, we got the 2011 film, which bombed HARD. The True Detectives route worked in reestablishing it

Thats ultimately dismissive of how Lanterns approaches John and Hal as characters, especially Hal who I'd say is the most faithfully adapted, Lanterns uses its small-town True Detectives premise as a hook to explore their relationship and how they grow as people, and how especially John becomes a GL

I have, and I disagree, because of how Lanterns places its emphasis on the character drama and how it relates to the GL in the sense of legacy and power it brings, how John chooses to become a Lantern through his own will, not having to be beholden to a corrupt institution upheld by the Guardians

As I said, many of the changes done in Lanterns are justified by the narrative it weaves, it's generally respectful towards the source material, and it's able to do its own unique thing, which is what the DCU should aim to do, its gotten many people I know who are casuals into GL, which is great

Yes, it is important to demand that Hollywood cast darker-skinned actors. To dismiss Aaron Pierre's performance, however, is incredibly ignorant, and it's not as if the show doesn't explore race, it absolutely does, and that's why Lanterns' take on John's character works

Good. I suggest watching these podcast episodes after each episode, as they give insight into the production, because it's not just Lindlelof or King writing this, it's an entire room of writers that collaborate to put together the scripts, and directors who put themselves into the work

The changes made serve the show's narrative about legacy and trauma; you're also completely off the mark about Hal, the Lanterns, and John's actor. You cannot complain about them not "understanding" the material when you refuse to actually see the show for yourself and rely on an outsider's POV

I suggest watching the show for yourself and coming to your own conclusions instead of complaining about how we can't get x and y; it's literally not engaging with the material for it is, and what it says about Hal and John as characters. There's nothing in the show that outright rejects the comics

Complaining about Lanterns not being x, y, z atp is trite granted how the show made it abundantly clear from the start it's not trying to go for a space opera ala Johns' run, and going for a more grounded 90s take. I'd argue it shares a lot of DNA to HTH with how it approaches its character writing

Finished Lanterns, overall the show was a good 8.5/10, had the best portrayal of Hal Jordan in any media, and I'm excited to see how John Stewart develops in the DCU. I'm glad we got a very well-written small-town mystery that nails down what makes Green Lantern so engaging in the first place

I'm surprised by that, because Hal's easily the most likable character in the show, given how he's overall the most heroic, actually helping people, which I feel adds dimensions to his friction with John and how he viewed him as a replacement sent in by the Guardians

I need all of the Parallax theories for Lanterns to die out. It's such a flimsy theory that throws away a lot of the writers' work to portray Hal as a flawed man who means well, explaining it all as just: "Oh it was because of Parallax" is a disservice to both the writers and the audience

I love it honestly because it drives home how Hal alienated himself from everyone due to what happened with Sinestro breaking his faith in the corp. If it was the Hal from 2006, he would have had the funeral he imagined. So, so excited for the next episode

I feel like the chances of that are extremely low given Toei's contracts. I don't think we'd ever see an ongoing licensed KR book by DC, and the logistics of that are questionable at best, because are they just gonna do one based off the original 1971 show, or an entirely different thing
