My ire was more focused on cable boxes themselves, as seen in this blog post from 2010, a year earlier... buchnotes.com/2010/08/26/c...
From 1950 to 1980, watching TV was super easy: All you had to do was remember what time your favorite shows would be on and then turn a knob to tune in. So simple. The process required less than o.00oo001% of your brain power, freeing America to do some pretty cool things during that time span, like walk on the moon, march for civil rights, and impeach a president.

Then came a wolf in sheep's clothing that sought to annihilate the elegant simplicity of TV watching: The Cable Box. Sure it came with dozens of enticing channels, but it rendered useless the TV's own dial and it made hooking up a VCR a complicated mess. It also made life hell for every 10 year old boy who was forced to become their home's I.T. guy.

when a Netflix original winds up in a theater, it's only fair that the theater provide ironing boards and ample space for folding laundry while viewing
Instagram post from the New Beverly cinema in Los Angeles for a screening of the Netflix movie THE RIP starring Matt Damon and Ben Affleck. Shown in the post is a two-shot of Damon and Affleck aiming flashlight guns into the camera. Not shown in the post are all the expositional dumps that Netflix requires that probably feel like WAY extra padding in a theater.

I could’ve sworn “John Rambo” was the title of the 2008 movie… and I was right, it was! And it was wasn’t! It’s Schrodinger’s Stallone Title!
From the Rambo (2008) Wikipedia page:

Post-production
John Rambo was the original working title for the film but was changed in the US because Stallone thought that audiences might think that this is the final film in the Rambo series, due to the then recently released Rocky Balboa
(2006), which was not his original intent. In many other countries, the title John Rambo is used because the first Rambo film First Blood was known as Rambo in those countries. The
film premiered on US television as Rambo, but the title sequence referred to it as John Rambo.

Is Netflix’s 2026 movie WAR MACHINE a remake of Netflix’s 2017 movie WAR MACHINE?
Poster for a 2026 Netflix original movie called WAR MACHINE with Alan Ritson of REACHER dressed in military fatigues in front of a shadowy killer robot mech thing. It’s very dark and serious. Shades of Predator meets Transformers. A poster for the 2017 Netflix original movie called WAR MACHINE featuring Brad Pitt in a military uniform holding an alcoholic beverage, surrounded by other soldiers looking perplexed. Very light and frothy. Like THE HANGOVER meets STRIPES, maybe? I dunno. Never saw the movie. Did anyone? Is that why Netflix is remaking it with non-Tom Cruise Reacher?

With an opening like that, and only six episodes overall, you’d think Sessions would’ve been a shoo-in for a 2nd season — according this LA Times piece from ‘91, Crystal certainly was expecting more eps! — but nada. What happened?
From a 1991 LA Times article: Crystal fully expects that HBO will order more episodes of "Sessions" for next year, which means that as soon as he's finished with "Mr. Saturday Night," he'll be right back in the saddle again, sitting down with Barron for the mock therapy sessions (in which Barron plays Bookman and Crystal plays Carver) from which "Sessions" scripts are born. There's a part of him that would like to take a break, to relax for just a little…

Even though my credits are accurately documented on the IMDb, it got them comically wrong. It didn't invent a fake quote for me, instead it invented entire FAKE analysis of my work on TV shows I did not work for. Fun! (3/3) (I have never written for either THE NEWSROOM or THE WEST WING)
[A continuation of ChatGPT's response to the question in the previous skeet]

A few relevant themes from his work might include:
1. The Danger of Ideological Echo Chambers: In The Newsroom, there's a constant exploration of media's role in promoting a particular narrative or ideology over facts.
Buchman has said that the role of the media should be to inform, not to sway or entertain, which has often been an issue in today's politically polarized media landscape.
2. The Erosion of Facts: Much of Buchman's critique revolves around how public figures, especially politicians, selectively use or twist facts. This mirrors the rise of
"alternative facts" during the Trump administration and the broader misinformation issues surrounding social media.
3. Civility and Idealism in Politics: Having worked on The West Wing, a show often praised for its optimistic portrayal of politics, Buchman has been open about his disappointment with the cynicism that has come to dominate American political culture. He has, at times, lamented the lack of idealism and the decline of bipartisan cooperation that was once more prevalent.
Though there may not be a direct standout quote from him about the post-2016 political discourse, his work speaks volumes about the challenges the country faces today. If you're looking for specific quotes, interviews, or writings from him since 2016, they might be found in his appearances on talk shows or in interviews where he comments on the broader state of American media and politics.
Would you like me to help you dig into any specific interviews or articles where he might have addressed this more directly?

I asked ChatGPT: "What does Eric Buchman, the television writer, think about today's political discourse? Does he have any relevant quotes about American politics since 2016 that would be enlightening?" And... 2/3
A ChatGPT window where the user asks: "What does Eric Buchman, the television writer, think about today's political discourse? Does he have any relevant quotes about American politics since 2016 that would be enlightening?"

ChatGPT's answer is: Eric Buchman, a television writer known for his work on shows like The West Wing and The Newsroom, is widely regarded as someone who often reflects on the state of American politics and society. His background in writing for political dramas has made him an astute commentator on the current political climate. While there isn't a direct, widely known quote from him specifically addressing the political discourse post-2016, his work often touches on themes that resonate with today's political environment.
In terms of his commentary, Buchman has consistently spoken out about the erosion of truth and the manipulation of facts, issues that became more prominent with the rise of social media and the fragmentation of news sources. His work in The Newsroom, especially, critiques how media handles (or mishandles) political discourse, and many of those critiques seem prescient given the divisiveness in American politics since 2016.
