So now, twelve years later, I’m here, engaging in an ESport I love, with my husband who supports me and my writing, who isn’t afraid to love me loudly, and I’m not at all who I was when I first started playing the game back at 14. It’s just…really healing, I think.

And the craziest part? I listened to him. I quit, I stopped writing altogether until about three years ago—when my Twitch community encouraged me to start writing again after doing nothing but infodumping about my characters and world on stream. And holy shit, I’m so glad I listened to them.

I was absolutely ENAMORED with this guy. Looking back, there were a lot of signs that he was…a dick LOL But anyway, at one point, I showed him my writing. And he told me point blank that it was the worst thing he’d ever read, and it wasn’t worth it for me to continue writing.

Replaced ‘injury’ with ‘dead’…but not for long! Experimenting with necromancy in an urban fantasy setting is fun :D #WIPSnips

So this is necromancy.
The necromancer placed her hands on the patient's neck, then at the center of his chest. "Ten-blade,
she demanded.
One nurse handed her the instrument, while the other poured disinfectant onto the man's chest, the liquid quickly covering the man's middle as the nurse flicked her fingers, moving the disinfectant without even touching him.
"Prepare to charge," said the woman in the black scrubs as she made two incisions above the man's lungs. Another doctor faced her, electricity radiating directly from his ands. "Charge to 200," she nodded, slipping both hands into the incisions.
"Clear," shouted the other doctor, the rest of the staff backing away-except for the woman in the black scrubs. The man pressed his hands against the man's chest, the man's body jolting upwards at the shock. The incisions illuminated in a brilliant orange, like a sun coming apart as the woman in black scrubs stayed still, intensely focused.
Light ripped through the man's body, then faded.
"250," the necromancer shouted.
"Clear!"
The necromancer braced herself once again, the electricity rolling off her as the shock was delivered. The man's body illuminated again, the light shifting inside him like the flame of a candle.
The light faded, and the EKG monitor came to life, a heartbeat outlined by rapid tones and quick, jagged green lines. The man choked, desperate for air, and the necromancer backed away.

"All psionics give me the creeps," Leona sneered. "But anyway, you know my older brother, Elias?"
Thirty years older than Leona, Callon's only interactions with him had been at family meetings, just like the one he missed yesterday. "I mean no, but I'm aware of him.
"Well...are you aware of his wife? Because she, apparently, is very aware of Rennyn." He paused, eyes widening. "..shut up," he gasped, covering his mouth.
"It gets worse!" Despite her words, Leona looked radiant, smiling from pointed ear to ear as she continued. "So three years ago, he gets in trouble for something stupid, dad sends him to work security at Elias's place as like, a punishment right?" exciting, Yeah, I can't imagine being a bodyguard for his sister-inlaw was that
"Except it was. See, Elias and whatever-her-face wanted to have kids for years, but they couldn't."
Callon raised an eyebrow. "Wait, you don't remember your sister-in-law's name?"
"No, she's irrelevant like, seventy percent of the time. But anyway, Rennyn starts working there, and lo' and behold, their miracle baby shows up nine months later."

I’ve had a bitch of a time being motivated to write with how busy work had me last month but. Managed to at least get a fun little tidbit about Dwarven reality tv. I’d watch the fuck out of it.

He happily stayed with Callon that night, insisting Callon go through his post-sex routine as if he weren't there. It felt like a strange type of roleplaythey ate out of takeout containers, cuddled up together while watching some reality show about Dwarven housewives. It was something Alyx would've done with a partner-had done, just a year ago. Yet Callon was still somewhat of a stranger.
Regardless, there were many things he enjoyed about Callon's presence, one being that he never had to worry about not knowing what to say. Callon filled in gaps of silence with ease, as if he were putting his entire stream of consciousness on display as Alyx traced one of his tattoos.
"I watch this with my friend Leona a lot," Callon rambled. "And I love her, but her opinions are wrong. Like," Callon pointed to the television. "See that one? With the hair?"
That did not narrow it down. Still, Alyx nodded. "Mmhmm."
"That's her favorite. But she hit that one with her car, and honestly, I think that's kind of cheating. Like, she wanted the last word, but she didn't say anything, just," Callon looked up at Alyx, eyes wide. "Wham. Hit the lady with her car during her own bachelorette party."

Seren cut Callon off with a smack to the face.
Callon recoiled, stunned for a moment. He raised his hand to cover his cheek as it turned red. "Okay, first of all, ow-"
"What the fuck is your problem?! Party drugs are one thing, but anthurium?! Are you out of your fucking mind?! You're-you're not even a mage! What benefit does it have for you other than getting you high?!"
...well that's kind of-"
"Shut up! Gods, you're so..." failing to find an adequate descriptor, he let out an aggravated sigh. "I'm just...fuck, Callon! You're better than this. You're better than your father."
"Guess you can't say the same," Callon groaned, holding his cheek.
Seren took a deep breath, the sound of the washing machines all that filled the space. "...
I'm sorry. But you need to cut this shit out. I'll cover for coke. I'll cover for ecstasy. But anthurium? No, I'm done. I'm not risking everything anytime you decide to go party, got it?"
"Yeah, yeah, I get it," said Callon. "Everyone's made that abundantly clear," the scolding was starting to get excessive.

The stranger continued like nothing was out of the ordinary, shrugging his shoulders. "It's whatever. But anyway, I don't even remember why I was laughing. I probably looked like an idiot."

"Little bit," Alyx smiled. "But I'm not sure there's a way to gracefully have a bad trip."

"Well, I'm sure there's a way. I just haven't figured it out yet." He stretched, his top riding up further as it exposed more of his midriff. A car drove by, its lights illuminating scattered glittery eye makeup, shimmering like stars across his face.

He really looks like he walked out of a painting.

With his thin waist and sharp jawline, his appearance could only be described as androgynous; a look Alyx had only seen in portrayals of the Gods. His eyes snaked down his waist, following the happy trail down the stranger’s stomach.

Stop staring, he reprimanded himself before refocusing. "Do you know what you took, by the way?"

The man furrowed his brow. "What are you, a cop?"

Alyx did as he instructed, sitting down on the bed. "I thought you wanted me to be the one giving orders?" He asked before taking a drink and setting the bottle down.
"I do. But, you need to know what orders to give," Callon set the glass down on the nightstand, standing in front of Alyx. "So, since you're new at this, we'll take things one step at a time." Callon peeled off his shirt, tossing it to the side. "I say something I'd like you to do to me. You say no, I come up with something else. You say yes, we do it. Sound like a plan?'
Alyx nodded, watching as Callon continued to strip. "Yeah. That works for me."
"Good. Now," he held his hands behind his back, coyly swaying back and forth, face painted in faux innocence. Golden light hit Callon's pale skin perfectly, fully bare and vulnerable. "I think..." He walked closer. "I want you to spank me. I want you to whisper in my ear when you do it, too."
"I'd like that," Alyx sat up, watching as Callon laid across his lap. He ran his hand over Callon's skin, his voice low. "You gotta tell me what to say."
"Praise me. Insult me. I don't care, I just_" Callon let out a yelp, bucking his hips as Alyx's hand met his skin.
"Too much?"
"No, that's that's perfect, please"

Accidentally wrote my way into "oh this would be a nice spot for them to discuss boundaries actually" I feel like I should change Callon's last line here but it's too funny

“Well,” Callon grabbed a bottle of red wine, setting it on the counter. “You don’t talk a whole lot. I mean, you’re not like, entirely the strong silent type, but…” he grabbed two wine glasses from the cabinet, pouring the wine and handing Alyx a glass. “You seem like the kind of guy who wants to get right to the point.”

I don’t even like red wine.

Still, Alyx took the glass, taking a sip and trying to mask his reaction of the bitter taste.

Callon let out a chuckle. “You don’t like it?”

“No, no, it’s fine, it’s—”

Callon took the glass from Alyx’s hands, taking a long sip. He exhaled, setting it down. “So, here’s the thing. We can have normal people sex.”

Alyx scrunched his eyes in confusion. “What?”

“You know. Normal people sex. Sex without the hair-pulling and the choking and the taking orders. Vanilla sex. But…” he paused, tapping his nails against the counter, the nail-polish from when they first met now mostly faded away. “Well, it seems like you’re interested in a little more than that.”

Alyx paused, a strange sense of embarrassment coming over him. There’s literally no reason to feel like this, not after that night. “…I am, yeah. Just…well, never had someone else that felt the same way.”

“Lame.”
