Just started 007: First Light. I’m glad I’m playing it before GTA 6 because my definition of AAA gonna change afterwards. It’s a bit like Apple and how it defines the standard all the time. I just bought a flip phone a few months ago in China, the Xiaomi Mix Flip 2. I liked it very much.

Started Days at the Morisaki Bookshop (森崎書店の日々, Satoshi Yagisawa 八木沢里志). This time, I got what I was looking for. A gentle, pleasant, light, kind, and smooth read. And it is such a reader’s book. I also like the timing as I started to explore 神田神保町 more in depth recently as I progress in Japanese.

Started Tokyo Ueno Station (JR上野駅公園口, Miri Yu, 柳美里). I was looking for a peaceful, calm, lighthearted read. Well, it isn’t it. It isn’t epic nor intense but it is quite heavy. And sad. I’m about half into it and I can feel this isn’t going to be any happy ending. But I also like it.

Still haven’t played: Wolverine, 007, E-Day, Dawnwalker, Pragmata, Yotei, Ace Combat 8, Crimson, Townfall, … and Belmont and Resonant come out in a few days. Omg and I also have to finish Dweller and I have to do all these before GTA 6.

Apple made a giant iPhone and called it iPad, and now, they made a giant Apple Watch and called it Homeview. Wonder how they’d call a giant AirTag.

Just got myself the first issue from @continuemag.bsky.social because that special edition cover looks nice. And because I like paper. And because it made a reference to APWOT. And because someone cool in my feed also said it was cool. So many reasons to get it. Can’t wait.

Started playing Star Wars: Galactic Racer. This is one of the best racing games I’ve played I years and it is also one of the funnest Star Wars games. The handling is insane and it feels so fast. If racing games usually turn one into a pilot, this game turns me into a Jedi. What a great fantasy.

Just watched Evil Dead Burn. I liked it. There are some really good scenes. For instance, that crawl sequence is really fun to watch. That idea with the smashing mirror is also cool. The film features some really nasty kills and is going over the top on violence, reconnecting with its roots.

Started Slaughterhouse-Five (Kurt Vonnegut). Unsure what I got myself into. It is weird and poetic. I’m having a hard time following it but that must be on purpose considering the subject. And it works well. I’m swinging between confusion and understanding. But I always feel empathetic.

Heard a random person singing it and it took me a while to find the song. And I have no idea what it is about because I don’t understand Cantonese. But I really like it. I’m obsessed with it.

Started playing Well Dweller. I was looking forward to playing it because Crypt Custodian was one of my favourite games I played when it came out. I was a bit surprised the developers go back to a more traditional-vania style but I liked the visuals. It looks as charming as CC. And it sounds good.

I've been practicing 漢字 for a few years now and it is hard. It is actually not getting easier. Only harder. Because the more I learn, the more problems I see. The good thing though is that whatever problem I detect, millions of people have had it before.

Just watched Evil Dead Rise. I expected quite a lot because my friend @mrsambarlow.bsky.social said good things about it. And I realise once again that I have friends with good taste. Because the movie is awesome. It is so much better than the previous one. The cast is great, with strong chemistry.

Started Creative Types and Other Stories (Tom Bissell). Not only I didn’t know what kind of book I started, I also never heard of the author. And I read half of it before realising they are all independent short stories. And they are really cool. So, I Googled the guy and found out who he is.

Watched Evil Dead (2013). Still prefer the original and the original remake. And the original sequel to the original remake. I found the movie boring. It looks big(er) budget yet it feels cheap. It tried to be spectacular yet it fell flat. There is nothing new, so even the gore doesn’t shock me.

Just watched 浪浪山小妖怪 (Nobody). It is extraordinary. It is by far the best animated film I've watched coming from China. The arts, the animation, the music, the story, the dialogue, the pacing, and the general feeling are great. I enjoyed every frame of it.

Just played Orbitals with my friend in Japan. I’m bluffed. First time using game share feature on my Switch 2 and I wasn’t ready for that. I thought the other player needed to download something first but no, it’s actual local streaming, it is almost instantaneous, and it works so well.

Just watched The End of Oak Street. What a terrible movie. I wanted to watch something light, with some cool adventures, and sure, why not some Dinos. And this movie checks all the boxes. But it is so boring. And not credible once. Everyone over reacts and the acting is forceful. No real tension.

Just started Death of the Author (Nnedi Okorafor). I have no idea what it is about but I liked the cover so I decided to try. Funny that I’m reading this immediately after On Writing because it is about a writer. I can’t decide yet whether I like it or not but the style is smooth and simple.

Started On Writing (Stephen King). I don't recall when I first read it. I don't think I've read it in English tho. Anyhow, as expected, it's great. King is one of my all time favourite authors and A long walk is one of my all time favourite books. I like his style and how he captures youth.

Just watched Coyote VS ACME. What a formidable film. This is a masterpiece. It reminds me the best of Who Framed Roger Rabbit back then. This is what cinema is about: everything is fake, you know it’s fake, it is literally made to even look fake, and yet, it feels real. The emotions are real.

Started Atomic Habits (James Clear). This is one of those books so many people told me to read for so many years and I just never felt attracted to it. I usually don’t read any of those business or self improvement books. I find them boring, dubious, and unscientific at best, or completely bs.

Things that drive me nuts about Japanese is the 促音 and the 長音符. I never remember where they appear so it takes me years to write a single word. Japanese doesn’t have enough vowels and consonants so it has so many quirks.

Started Les guerres de Lucas 2. It’s specifically interesting to me at this moment as I’m wondering how to make a proper sequel. And turning that into a franchise. I don’t know how much is true in this book, probably very romanised like many biopics of some sort, but it’s inspiring.

Started Les Guerres de Lucas (Laurent Hopman, Renaud Roche). So many people recommended this comic and now, I know why. It is a formidable story, with beautiful illustrations, well told. I like how it does such a great job at telling the story through Lucas’ lens. And it works well. Very engaging.

Just read and finished La Route (Manu Larcenet). I watched the movie back then. I’m pretty sure I’ve read the novel but I can’t remember clearly. The comic book is as sad as the other versions. Maybe even more. The illustrations are horrific, and they show the world from the kid’s perspective.

Started reading Twice (Mitch Albom). I instantly got hooked on the premise because it is literally one of those questions I’ve asked myself many times. If I could go back and redo, would I do it? And my answer, every time, has been no. Maybe because I’m too lazy to redo everything.

Just started Never Lie (Freida McFadden). I’m not so much into thriller but the pacing of this book is amazing. Short chapters, with new events in quick successions, it is written like a show in HBO. I like how the mystery is being developed. I’m intrigued. I’m engaged.

Watched Normal. I’m tired of those new-gen action movies. They all go for that semi-comical and second-degree stance nowadays. There is zero gravitas anymore. All the drama seems forced and every situation is random. I don’t feel any tension and the combats feel generic. Sad because I like the main.

Watched The death of Robin Hood. A surprising movie. I really liked this alternative version of the tale. It’s pretty cool to imagine the folks hero as a bloody criminal. It kinda makes sense. Unsure about the redemption part but the execution is good and the movie was pleasant.

Watched Mortal Kombat 2. What a disaster. The movie is so bad. The acting is cringe. The story is inexistant. The combats are unintentionally comical. The dialogues are lame. There is nothing to be saved. Even Techno Syndrome sounded better in the original one. A complete waste of time.

Just watched It’s a wonderful life. I never heard of this movie until a new friend recommended it to me recently. I’m glad I watched it because I needed it. It is a beautiful tale that reminds me of back to the future. It is a tad naive, the pacing also dated, but it is truly wonderful.

Watched (군체). The concept was cool and I really wanted to see what comes after Train to Busan. Unfortunately, it left me on the platform... it has everything to be such a cool movie and it was so bland. The movie happens in a mall and it barely uses any of the architecture or props.
