in brief: if you get onto a dnc mailing list you will receive a shitton of fund raising email from the dnc, and dnc candidates. if you get on a conservative mailing list, you will be slowly pulled into grifter cinematic universe of anti-immigrant spam, dietary supplements, and charlie Kirk
Visualization of email received by two addresses, mostly over a 1-decade span. One was subscribed to a Barack Obama fundraising list, another to the Redstate.com mailing list.

Over time the Obama list was used to fundraise for other DNC candidates, at very high volume but tightly restricted to official DNC candidates and party organizations.

Over a similar period of time the Redstate email list was farmed out to a huge list of direct marketing and loosely affiliated political targeting businesses, either selling products, fundraising for a variety of random conservative causes, pushing investment opportunities, or spreading anti-immigrant sentiment while monetizing via dense digital ad placement.

Thanks — agreed it’s pretty good. I didn’t think, from the answers I gave, that it would come out as negative as it seems to have. I suppose my definition of “neutral” is grimmer than some, heh

welp
“What makes Daystar uniquely troubling is its quiet persistence. Unlike more notorious cults, it never made headlines for mass suicides or armed standoffs. Its violence was psychological and spiritual - the kind that leaves no visible scars but rewires nervous systems. Members who left didn't escape so much as they took the cult's programming with them.

This explains why nearly 50 years later:

- Second-generation kids (now in their 40s-50s) still unpack religious trauma

- Former members maintain friendships forged in that pressure cooker

- The group's theology continues influencing churches nationwide

The most insidious cults aren't those that explode spectacularly, but those that dissolve quietly while preserving their control. Daystar perfected this - its doctrines live on in homeschool curricula, purity culture teachings, and the unexamined assumptions of thousands who never knew its name.”

A thing I take nerd pride in: the company I work for powers Taco Bell’s digital content. The old Onion article about “7 ingredients arranged differently” is why Taco Bell’s supply chain + food science work is *awesome*; it also illustrates how modern content operations work scales.

Many tags, with short messages written on them, have been tied to the branches of a small tree. Visitors are encouraged to write a message and add it to the tree.

What comes through in her actual work is a breathtaking commitment to the idea that art is a connection between the artist and the viewer, that it’s fundamentally incomplete, practically dead, if the viewer is not a co-participant. Her body of work is absolutely relentless.

“There’s no point in acting surprised about it. All the planning charts and demolition orders have been on display at your local planning department in Alpha Centauri for 50 of your Earth years, so you’ve had plenty of time to lodge any formal complaint and it’s far too late to start making a fuss about it now. … What do you mean you’ve never been to Alpha Centauri? Oh, for heaven’s sake, mankind, it’s only four light years away, you know. I’m sorry, but if you can’t be bothered to take an interest in local affairs, that’s your own lookout. Just a few pages in and already loving Jillian Hess’s “How Romantics and Victorians Organized Information” — its relevance to content architecture and editorial affordances in web and content management tools is pinging around in the back of my mind.
“What if, instead of trying to locate one of Emerson’s transcribed quotations within literary history, we locate it within the commonplace tradition? This raises a host of different questions. We might pay more attention to the layout of a particular page—how entries work congruously, synthetically, or contradictorily. We might also pay attention to medial shifts from handwritten text to cut-and-pasted newsprint.”

The modern right loves retributive vigilante violence — stories of good, decent folks fucking up evildoers that “the law” couldn’t reach. That isn’t because they care about injustice: It’s because they love a story that lets them fantasize about morally justifiable violence.

Rep. Warren Davidson Introduces the Trump Derangement Syndrome (TDS) Research Act of 2025

May 15, 2025

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, Rep. Warren Davidson (R-OH) introduced the Trump Derangement Syndrome (TDS) Research Act of 2025. This bill would direct the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to study the psychological and social roots of what is known as Trump Derangement Syndrome, a phenomenon marked by extreme negative reactions to President Donald J. Trump. He was joined by original cosponsor Rep. Barry Moore (R-AL).

"TDS has divided families, the country, and led to nationwide violence-including two assassination attempts on President Trump. The TDS Research Act would require the NIH to study this toxic state of mind, so we can understand the root cause and identify solutions." said Rep. Davidson (R-OH).

"Instead of funding ludicrous studies such as giving methamphetamine to cats or teaching monkeys to gamble for their drinking water, the NIH should use that funding to research issues that are relevant to the real world."
"Trump Derangement Syndrome has become an epidemic on the Left," said Rep. Moore (R-AL). "Some individuals who suffer from Trump Derangement Syndrome have participated in nationwide political and social unrest, even trying to assassinate President Trump twice. Rep. Davidson's common-sense bill will use already appropriated funds on an NIH study that can make a difference."
