I spent most of today learning to work the pole... err... poll. I signed up to be a poll worker for the general election, and today was our first training. I still have online training modules to do, and an entire binder to read through. And yes, I was inspired to do this because of the social media campaign. If you know, you know.

Actually, home again was yesterday. We got home from Smut Lovers, unloaded the car, and sort of fell over. If falling over includes six loads of laundry, that is. Today is a low-energy day, although I did go to the pool to exercise this morning. There's been a lot of seated work since -- backing up the computer. Making calls. Making graphics for Bi Books Forever (see below).

Catching Up
The Monday after a weekend event is my time for catching up. Laundry, cleaning up, getting the millions of things done that usually get done over the weekend. So today is my day to catch up on things. The last load of laundry is in the machine. My planners are updated for the week. I've read all (okay, most) of my emails and ordered the supplies I need for upcoming shows.

Vacation is over, it's time to get back to work... almost. I'm actually getting back to work on writing on Wednesday. I'm currently working on revising the metadata and keywords for all of my books. It's been a minute since I last updated mine, so it's well and truly past time. Yes, I'm updating all of them. Now, this sort of requires a lot of thinking about what the average reader plugs into the search engine when they're looking for something new.

"Clever Headline Goes Here." Otherwise known as "this is your brain on sciatica pain." I thought I pulled a muscle exercising. So I did what you usually do when you pull a muscle -- anti-inflammatory medication, heat and ice, gentle stretching. Then the pins-and-needles started, and I hied myself off to the orthopaedist. Ortho set me up with six weeks of physical therapy and sent me to see a pain management doctor.

Well, That Certainly Took Off…
Friday night, we went out to dinner, and I made SURE that we were home in time to watch Artemis come home. And once she was down and safe, I posted something to my social media. And... it certainly took off. I've never had a post ever that gained the traction this one did. Friends have been tagging me when they see it, so I know how far it's gone. And I've tripped on one person who stole the post and claimed it for their own, which... I suppose that means I'm a real writer?

And Now… The Back Side of Luna!
I'm writing this up while I watch the Artemis II flyby of the Moon, and I really, REALLY need someone to say "And now... the back side of Luna!" I doubt anyone will (or if they did, I missed it.) Screenshot from my other monitor. I keep saying I'm tired of living in unprecedented times, but for this unprecedented time? I'll take it. The last time we went to the Moon, I was eight months old. And I just found out about the message that Jim Lovell (Commander of Apollo 13) recorded before he died, and that NASA played just before the Moon flyby started, welcoming the Artemis team to his old neighborhood.

I was writing up the description for my appearance on SFF News and Interviews this Thursday, and described it as fun, weird and slightly random. Which, I realize now, is me in a nutshell. Not that I mind. It makes things more interesting and far more entertaining. For me, anyway. Last week was a lot of catching up, although not nearly as much as I'd have liked. Some interesting bits in an "I could have done without this!" sort of way (No, I do not WANT to have to put a new roof on the house, thank you!) This week will be still more catching up -- I've already made two important phone calls.

I Am Not To Be Trusted With a Bubble Shooter
I got home from ICFA yesterday, and promptly fell over. The afterparty was amazing, there was unfiltered sake, and I learned a thing -- I am not to be trusted with a bubble shooter. I have NO idea who handed this to me -- it was dark on the pool deck, for all that everyone was wearing glowy flower crowns. But I reverted to the relative age of five, and there was much giggling and many, MANY bubbles. It was a good conference. And not just because of the bubbles. I got some amazing news on Wednesady, had an excellent reading on Thursday, moderated a panel on Friday that featured some amazing stories.

My brain, right now: "Event complete. Commence prep for ICFA. Warning. Caffeine levels insufficient." We just finished our weekend Renaissance Faire at the Oviedo Mall, and now I have two days to do everything that needs to be done in order to pack for ICFA, then a morning to actually PACK and get on the road. Now, it's not far from my house to ICFA, so getting there isn't a problem. My problem is getting ready so I can leave to get there. I did my show wrap up, and ordered things I'm low on from stock and swag.

It hasn't been a week yet, and I swear that I'm still dreaming. If I am, do NOT pinch me! Let me explain. The 11th annual Self-Published Fantasy Blog Off has started. This is my third time entering SPFBO, and I honestly had no expectations other than possibly getting some new reviews. I entered Written in Water three years ago, and Counsel of the Wicked two years ago. This year, I entered The Sea Prince. The blog that was assigned The Sea Prince has one of the strictest judging criteria in the contest, They read the first 10% of each entrant, and decide which of those are strong enough to want to read more.

Happy Book Day Eve!
Happy Book Day Eve to those who celebrate. I certainly do! Tomorrow is release day for The Coral Throne, which brings to a close a story that is old enough to drive in the state of Florida. I've told this story before -- in 2009, I woke up with this character in my head. His name was Tarjiaan, and he would not shut up. In the 45 minute drive to Ikea, I had most of the worldbuilding, and I actually ditched my family for about half an hour once we got there to go sit in the restaurant with a cup of coffee and write everything down.
