Since life is rudely distracting from my distractions, I'm taking a break from the bench ⏯️ So these four things are it for this year. I'll still be around though, having coffee in the lounge, eerily watching you toil

Next step is to weather the gun and engines, after that I can start working on the figures

My finished Tamiya 1/48 Corsair. Pretty happy with how it turned out! I picked up one of those void cubes, so I could take proper pictures for once 🐦 The last picture is the reference I've been using for this build #histscalemodels #finishedkits

Almost there! Just some final touches and a wing-climbing pilot to go Fingers crossed I manage to make him look like he actually belongs there, rather than some misplaced cartoon character #histscalemodels

After the storm drove out the worst of the heat, I got to make some progress. Filtered some panels to make them look replaced. The panel line wash came out a bit sharp, might tone it down later Before I do more weathering, I need to stop putting off masking the canopy though #histscalemodels

I masked the roundels by hand, to better preserve the panel lines later on. Unfortunately there's a pretty bad orange peel going on. Should've known better than to work in this heat... but these are my final days off and I couldn't not use them 🫠 #histscalemodels

I made the Corsair cockpit a little project of its own, with extra attention to detail and accessories. Soon to be completely invisible in its plastic tomb, but it was fun to do #histscalemodels

My next project, a Corsair. I love the wings on this thing 🪽 #histscalemodels
At my current modeling pace, I expect to finish it around Q2, 2031.

And so the Academy 1/72 Roman warship is done #histscalemodels

The 26 shields for the Roman warship. Very historically accurate, except for what I made up (all of it) #histscalemodels
I forgot how difficult it is to paint small convex shapes, especially with thin metallics.

Sails before and after filters Can't add the fun parts until the dreaded rigging is done, so I guess I can't postpone it any longer ☠️ #histscalemodels

The ancient Roman warship just evolved into a rowboat. That's most of the woodwork done. Busy times ahead unfortunately, so it may be on hold for a while. Then it's on to masts, sails (stripes or giant penguin pirate) and 26 🫠 colourful shields #histscalemodels #scalemodels
Sideview of the Academy 1/72 Roman warship. So much sanding, I'm surprised there's any plastic left...

Added some dotted treenails along the beams, it's subtle but adds to the illusion of a wooden construction That plume-like ornament on the tail is apparently called an aplustre, typical to Roman and Greek ships. Both a symbol of power and a sort of trophy when taken from a defeated enemy, plucking their feathers, as it were... Had some trouble getting it to look wooden.

Finished the penguin / mystical eye on the ancient Roman warship. That went better than expected, but I've masked my share of circles for this year. #histscalemodels
Close-up of a scale model Roman Warship. The eye wasn't a decal, to my surprise, but got pretty close. Then finished up with a little chipping along the plank edges

This'll definitely end up more penguin than eye. But maybe I prefer it that way.
The ancient Romans were well known for their antarctic expeditions, after all

And now for something completely different... Another attempt at a ship. The moulding is pretty rough at first sight. And I'm not sure about that tower. The Romans apparently did assemble such decktowers during battle, but they certainly weren't made of stone. It looks so out of place.

My Tamiya Fairey Swordfish 1:48 is finished. It was challenging (for me anyway) but so much fun. Thanks for the positive feedback along the way 🌸
Front view. Had little experience with photo-etch, so that was quite the learning curveIt's surprisingly big. And so front-heavy... How this thing ever remained horizontal is a mystery to meI actually lost the light on the top wing, so replaced that part with the gas lever of a messerschmitt...

Progress, most bits are on. The torpedo isn't supposed to be used in this kit, so I hope Tamiya will forgive me eventually. Still need to do the propeller and possibly some rigging wire, before I get to weathering 🌤️

It has an engine! I tried to go for a weathered look on the metal ring, but the metallic basecoat is so relentlessly shiny the effect is mostly lost 🫠 Falling in love with the Fairey though, what an impressive machine #histscalemodels

Well, that was the very, very arduous task of attaching the photo-etch bracing wires 😵‍💫 I'm pretty sure the plane is bracing the wires, rather than the other way around.

Life's getting in the way, but the fish part of the Sword-fish is slowly getting there. The decals were not inclined to co-operate (we do not bend), but after fading them a bit they blend in alright

My 1/72 pirate ship will remain unfinished. It was a joy to build... at least until the rigging and sails turned to disaster 🏴‍☠️

Finished the MENG ornithopter 1/72

Morningcoffee @earlymorningcoffee.bsky.social · 22/08/2025
The MENG 1/72 ornithopter is slowly getting there. Added inner window frames to hide the shiny plastic edges and tabs. Almost at final weathering, but first I have to do 8 (eight...) wings. Thinking of painting them aluminium, to resemble the transparent wings of dragonflies.

Pleased with the result of the added Atreides logo on the ornithopter tail! I let its wings run over the edge, they will disappear under the roof part. Diagonals are trendy in Dune...

The solo 4x4 Kurogane (1/48) from the earlier build, also the first car I made. Some things I would maybe do differently now, but I still like it. Wasn't happy with the figures though. Too shiny, and I never know what to do with the eyes 😶

The cockpit for the Dune Atreides ornithopter. Used a lot more colours (well, grays) than the manual intended, to make it more 'fighterjetty'. Adding in the figures later. For a reimagining of the ornithopter on a different planet though, their moulded still suits make little sense. Ah well.

My next project! I love Villeneuve's Dune. Going to make up my own colour scheme for this one though. Maybe imagine what they might look like on Caladan.

My Tamiya 1/48 Mitsubishi Ki-46 with 4x4 Kurogane. Lots and lots of canopy to mask. Some decal disaster on the tail wing. I love Tamiya, but why are their decals made of roof tiles?
