Investing in adaptation and resilience is an investment in security, stability and prosperity and requires scaling up climate finance, particularly for countries facing the greatest risks but the least fiscal space to respond. No country can tackle this challenge alone. Leaders must act with urgency

Leaders must realise energy security, affordable power, and a liveable climate are one agenda, and this year's shocks, from the Strait of Hormuz, rising risks of a punishing El Niño, and a warming planet all make the case for keeping climate urgency and action at the center, not setting it aside.

In a year of war and economic strain, the instinct is to treat climate as something to get back to later, even in the face of increasingly extreme climate impacts and volatile fossil fuel prices.

With #President Ursula von der Leyen’s urgent call for “Europe’s independence moment” still ringing in our hearts and minds, what geopolitical happening do you think have shaped the EU’s ability to act this year?

🌎 4. Diversify partnerships and deepening international cooperation. Will the EU be able to achieve greater autonomy and its “independence moment”, while simultaneously expanding its global agency?

💡 The Council will now need to take the lead to ensure the delivery of affordable and secure energy for European industry and citizens. That will mean swiftly agreeing on the Commission’s Grids Package as well as supporting the delivery of the proposals in the Clean Industrial Deal package.
110
E3G - Third Generation Environmentalism @e3g.bsky.social · 10/12/2025
However, the proposal to re-open existing legislation, such as the Renewable Energy Directive, means the Grids Package risks undermining calls for a stable and predictable regulatory framework.
