i just reread ‘The Machine Stops’ by E.M. Forster and am still blown away by it. reading it now is even more disconcerting and relevant than the first time. i’m figuring out how to print it to leave copies in all our Little Libraries here.

if it’s any consolation my 10 year old was ecstatic upon seeing my projector. he asked if he drew a bunch of pictures could he use it to tell a story like magic. i started to say, “yes, but there’s easier …” and then quickly stopped myself to say, “yes. it is magic, isn’t it?”

i used to draw on the margins and back pages of the mandatory bible we had to carry around in school. i remember the other students horrified, but also got some others to draw in it with me. it was the only reason i was sad when it was finally gone.

Hodge wanted me to art in tandem, so i made these using crayons & cruddy pastels. i find kids art supplies to be difficult to use, flimsy & frustrating. we decided we’ll stick to quality materials. i made a sharpie sketch to shake it off. he went back to building object stories all around the house.
