I would continue the work of David Macauley if I could.

Dammit, I had just convinced myself it was a goat when I found David Hill’s original:

“Doctor, you mentioned the ratio of ten women to each man. Now, wouldn't that necessitate the abandonment of the so-called monogamous sexual relationship, I mean, as far as men were concerned?”

The Three Investigators. And not a curse.
Cover of “Alfred Hitchcock and the Three Investigators in The Mystery of the Silver Spider.” Three boys, led by a slightly-chubby-faced boy in a Hawaiian shirt carrying a 9-volt flashlight, proceed kneed-deep through a flooded tunnel whose vaulted stonework is illuminated by a pinkish glow.

Lucky that “joy buzzer pro” guy got his foot in the door just as they realized that they had $800,000,000,000 left in the budget.

The skies will never be the same.
Poster for the 1983 feature film “Blue Thunder”, with the tagline: “Flying the most lethal weapon ever made... The Blue Thunder Special. At his fingertips, an infrared camera that can see right through your bedroom walls. A microphone that can record your most intimate conversations. And a 20mm electric cannon with six barrels that can turn your neighborhood into a raging inferno. But he's not headed for a war-torn country. He'll be cruising the skies of America. And only one man can stop him from using it on you.”

My guess is that when someone decided to create those projections, they were thinking they could get some nice fluted columns to put under them and then wrap a frieze around it, but then none of that came to fruition.

I can’t believe they actually found the guy.
Vintage magazine advertisement for “X-RAY SPECS (an hilarious optical illusion) only $1.00”, with a cartoon drawing of a guy’s head with swept-back hair and a toothy smile, wearing heavy-framed novelty glasses and shooting lightning bolts toward the silhouetted figure of a woman with the edges of her apparently now transparent dress drawn as thin contour lines.

Speaking of assholes, when "look up 'pejorative'" is an option in a pull-down menu, I expect to look up the word in the dictionary, not to find an app that can make fun of things for me, or to see if Alanis Morissette thought it was a synonym for "ironic."
Screenshot of me using the word "pejorative" in the previous post and I thought I might check my spelling, but the "look up pejorative" option brought up a message that "Look Up now shows personalized suggestions from the web, the iTunes Store, the App Store, movie showtimes, locations nearby, and more. To make suggestions more relevatent to you, Look Up includes your approximate location with search requests to Apple."

They’re coming for FDR.
1880s photo of young Franklin Roosevelt posed on a tree stump in a studio, wearing a white dress with a frilly collar and holding a frilly hat in his hands. His feet are clad in thin white socks and black buckled shoes. His hair is long with gentle curls at the sides. He looks a bit grumpy.

By a similar etymological process, the type of vocal cords that produce the most resonant intonings are called “easy reeds,” after Freeman’s character on “The Electric Company.”

There’s something here that reminds me of the governor’s palace ballroom facade in Williamsburg, VA.
North (ballroom) facade of the Governor’s Palace in Williamsburg, Virginia. The gabled end of a 1-story brick building wing. The central wood door is framed within an arched brick aedicule, and flanked by large multi-paned windows. The outside corners and the edges of the openings, including the arches, are laid in cut red bricks, while the wall area between is in a rougher, brown brick.
