Desperately seeking a home, life-partner, & realistic optimism. The anti-intellectualism, anti-science, ignorance, antipathy, bigotry, corpo/authoritarian-bootlicking in my country terrifies me. Facts. Art. Music. Empathy. Love is a behavior not a feeling.

Photo of a worn out mobile basketball hoop post where the backboard’s square and two unknown-purpose holes result in a pareidolia-effect face (which looks somewhat surprised). The hoop and worn out net look kinda like a beard.

Ah, Philly!
Photo of the sidewalk in Philadelphia. Visible is my sneaker feet, my shadow, some other shadow, and the prime subject: a stencil spray painted “DE FUND ICE”. Above that is probably a stinking grate leading to sewage or subway, or both.

Oh, Philly…
Macro-ish photo of a sidewalk at Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, wherein a small earring(?) charm has come to rest on the grout between paving stones. The earring (?) charm is a stick figure. The figure has two eyes, no nose, and a simple upward curved mouth in a smile (these details are cuts through the flat metal of the charm). The figure has both of their arms up in a double-middle-finger-salute pose. I’m very curious to know to whom this previously belonged, but I will never know. Trying to imagine a nurse wearing these as earrings… maybe appropriate for a “fuck cancer” event 🤔 I was tempted to pick it up, but with all the need to be as sterile as possible around my best friend during her cancer treatment, I left it alone to its fate.

Oh Philly… 🤦🏽‍♂️
A clearly disused, rusty, formerly-red fire hydrant, on a Philadelphia sidewalk that has had its top cone and spout caps removed, and been filled with GARBAGE. Basically, it’s a fire hydrant that’s been repurposed as a trash can and assume it’s nobody’s job to empty it. Many of the bags are green for some reason, and I wonder if those are dog shit bags. There’s also what looks like a ragged spent cigar on the ground in the foreground (thought it was dog shit but it seems to be a cigar), and a crumpled black plastic bag, possibly with dog shit in it. The photo background is a little bit of street, as the camera was aimed mostly at the fire hydrant trash receptacle. There’s also some unidentified litter/debris. This is located on Callowhill St, a very short distance from The Hannah and Netrality’s insanely loud data center exhaust fans. Putting a hotel/apartment complex across from this data center seems extremely counterintuitive to me. We hear it ALL the time. Luckily my earplugs help at night. I don’t hate this city, but I absolutely feel no love for it when not explicitly enjoying the great restaurants we sometimes visit here. Staying here for a few weeks while my best friend gets CAR-T for myeloma. Everything is so emotionally exhausting. I am so tired and so done with life, but still taking occasional photos which might amuse or make for entertaining memories if I ever find a life mate to share them with.

Since there’s dating app discourse: they’re scammy exploitative abuses of human loneliness. Also, here‘s me showing off (normally masked at socially-isolating, alone-amongst-people Planet Fitness outings b/c best friend’s cancer); I deleted OKCupid for being horrific and I have no dating profile:
Me. A 50-year-old man with short-cropped, side-buzzed, salt & pepper hair, wearing a brown shirt with “I Voted” sticker, sitting in the pretty grass & flowers at my best friend’s house in Philly a month or so ago. I’m kinda smiling; it takes effort to convey pleasantness when you’d rather jump in front of a freight train by this point, yet absolutely won’t do so because of the fear of surviving and having made life even worse. I love this ❤️ Gary Larson did something in this genre:
A The Far Side comic of a fish exploring outside its bowl with a reverse-diver suit. There’s a goldfish bowl on top of an upright piano. Inside the bowl are two goldfish looking downward at a third fish below them, inside a suit that has allowed it to “dive” outside their bowl, connected to the inside of the bowl by a long line. The exploring fish is walking on the piano’s keyboard which has alerted a woman in the next room over, in the background. The text reads "The fool! ... He's on the keyboard!"

Wegmans’ version of these are better than the Takis version that seems to be the most popular & more expensive version. They’re a little better than Trader Joe’s version, IMO (which are also good). Both Wegmans’ & Trader Joe’s exclude artificial flavors & colors, so I’ve never even tried Takis.
An image of a greenish bag of Wegmans “Food You Feel Good About” Chili Lime Flavored Rolled Corn Tortilla Chips. One pepper out of three, in terms of spiciness. The background is flat white. These are better than the Takis branded version that seems to be the original(?). They’re even better than Trader Joe’s version (which are good too). Both Wegmans and Trader Joe’s versions leave out artificial flavors and colors, so I’ve never even tried the Takis.

Seen in Philadelphia today at a community boat dock:
Photo of a shiny silvery mirrored sticker attached to a boat dock that has a badly drawn (kinda looks generated) computer with arrows shot into the oldschool monitor. The text reads: “Butlerian Jihad Now. Send AI to hell. If you make a robot, I will kill you.” There is also an anarchy logo to the right, scrawled in paint or sharpie.

Hernia surgery… some things expected, other things not expected. Crying is a very bad idea: expected (everything is a trigger). Various weird pains not at the surgical site, plus intestinal cramping: unexpected.

I took these 2/12/2026 (almost two months before she dumped me) with the express purpose of trying to use whimsy to bridge the gap of 2038 miles of separation caused by her living in a shared apartment (tiny, exploitatively-expensive), and our poverty. It didn't work. She'd been moving on all year.
Self-portrait with holiday lights along desk, with my face peeking up from behind the desk, looking into the camera, attempting to be good natured, pleasant, and fun. Taken for my (now-ex-)girlfriend, since we'd been separated for over a year by this point, and I wanted to try to be present in her life while circumstances kept us apart (shared living in a tiny apartment, exploitation by rental companies, poverty). Fairly reddish overall exposure.Self-portrait with holiday lights along desk, with my face peeking up from behind the desk, looking into the camera, attempting to be good natured, pleasant, and fun. She ❤️ the photo (fresh haircut) in iMessage; broke up w/me 6 days later 9 years ended from 2038 miles away I’ve no idea how to start again. 50. Poverty. PTSD. My only assets: a house; my personality. Stuck in a conservative, cigarette-addicted region where atheists, vegans, progressives, are rare
Unsolicited bathroom selfie. 50-years-old, salt&pepper short-haired man smiling.

Smiling because he was unknowingly mere days away from being made formally-single, after a year of separation from the woman he loves against all the odds, who has spent the last several years becoming progressively detached from him but not actually breaking up with him or making clear communication that she wanted to, nor how to bridge any gaps or progress the relationship.

Being loving and kind and patient with people who have long-term trauma issues seems like a good thing to do when you’re able to commit, but it’s not good for you if the other person never works on any of their traumas and leaves you with a refreshed repeat of your own traumas. I am demolished.

An old man drove his mini SUV into my neighbors’ houses several days ago. Luckily he didn’t hit people. It’s too bad he missed my trees or the telephone pole out front. There was no evidence of skidding; not a weather-related issue. I hate living on a busy road, near a busy intersection.
Photo of a mini SUV crashed into row-houses. Image taken from adjacent porch. An old man drove his mini SUV into my neighbors’ houses several days ago. It’s too bad he missed my trees or the telephone pole out front. There was no skidding. This was not a weather-related issue. Wheel tracks cross over the corner of my minuscule yard and over the neighbor’s. The curb and snow in front of it show no skidding as was created when dragging the vehicle away. I don’t know how it happened but I’m sad for my neighbors (two houses suffered damage), and just generally confounded that we coexist with cars like this.

Daily I‘m confronted w/reasons why buying this house was the single worst mistake ever made by me while on the psych drugs I was coerced onto. The architects & decision-makers responsible for these stupid 1900 row-houses are long dead, and, as an atheist, I can’t believe they’re in hell for it.
Low angle photo of my back walkway covered in snow, where you can see how deep it was when I took the photo (maybe closing in on a foot?). I hate this.Photo of my back walkway where it goes into a space consisting of my garage wall and the neighbor’s car port. There’s nowhere to easily take the fucking snow because the people who built these row houses were stupid assholes and densely built/attached structures are fucking stupid and antisocial in general. No, familiarity doesn’t breed contempt; forced-proximity does. Nobody should have to constantly hear (or even smell!) the people who aren’t inside their own houses and structural safety shouldn’t be fucking dependent on neighbors’ upkeep or accidents. Should we all be sociable and helpful when possible? Of course. It should, however, be up to our agency whether we experience our neighbors, not be forced by proximity.

Screenshot of customer service “contact us” chat bot for Giant Groceries.

Bot says:

“Feel free to ask any question as you would to a human, or explore some of the following topic options to get started:”

I asked:

“Why have you discontinued Nature's Promise Non-Dairy Chocolate Coconutmilk Frozen Dessert???”

To which it replied:

“When you become a GIANT CHOICE Pass holder, you enjoy more than just unlimited FREE delivery. You also get $15 off an online order of $300 or more each month.”Second screenshot of violently useless chat bot on Giant grocery contact page:

Bot says:

“Do you have any other questions?”

I replied:

“FUCK YOU”

The bot then asks:

“It sounds like you are trying to reach one of our live agents. Please note, for the best experience please do not re-fresh your browser as the chat may get disconnected.

Are you sure you'd like to be connected to a live agent?”

I chose YES, from the binary options… see next screen shot.Screen shot 3 of 3, from Giant grocery website contact chat bot:

In response to asking me if I wanted to talk to a live agent, it then responds with:

“How can I direct your questions regarding the vaccine?

Vaccine Information
Day of Vaccine Appointment
General FAQ
Other Question
Scheduling & Availability
Booster Shots”

I never once said a goddamned thing about any fucking vaccine.

If I chose “other”, it repeats the process. It’s a fucking nightmare of useless bullshit.

👋🏽 So exhausted. I used to enjoy self-portraiture. At this point, trying to make music or photography is extra strain on top of coping w/the daily dose of utterly unnecessary intolerable horribleness spewed at us by a broken minority of awful humans granted ultimate power. We must save each other.
That’s me. White guy in front of a shower curtain wearing a black fleece shirt with collar, side-lit from a window off screen, engaging a stern expression and allowing you to see his terribly inelegant unshaven face that will never grow a good-looking beard. Side of head is shaved and most hair is flipped over the top to my left side because I’m experimenting with trying to hold on to some kind of atypical but not aggressively fringe outward characteristics, which I’m uncertain about as a 50-year-old having a midlife crisis due to life experience, aging, and the nightmare of fascist & religious insanity gripping the USA. Shitty iPhone SE3 image quality, with its non-consensual image processing that cannot be disabled, plus some chosen stylizing via various settings adjustments that I regret, but fuck it. And fuck any corporation using alt tags to feed their image theft tool’s metadata. Generative tools aren’t AI. Fuck corporate America and their thorough corruption. Fuck the tech industry for destroying the vast potential of computers. Fuck authoritarians, extremists, and the self-righteous. So fucking sick of it all. It never had to be this way. Hold on to each other, people. The only way to survive is to actually fucking care about each other, not endlessly split into endless factions. Sincerity is better than preemptive defensiveness and untouchable posturing.

The highlighted garbage in this screenshot is constantly in the way while trying to post on this site. Scroll the page or text box, accidentally close/open the keyboard: SUFFERING. Is it BlueSky that’s at fault, or Apple? I can tell you this: it fucking sucks and wasn’t THIS obstructive until iOS 26
Screenshot of making a new post on BlueSky. Above the keyboard is a blank suggestion bar. Above that is dead empty space as a buffer for these idiotic Liquid Glass zones so it has unnecessary borders to show off. Above that is an entirely useless bar that does fucking nothing at all despite having controls (they do nothing except for the checkmark which closes the keyboard). Do nothing but block the screen, I mean. Above that is more dead space until finally there’s the name of the website in yet another unnecessary glass bubble that gets in the way. Half the time these things and the page scroll are positioned in such a way that they are overtly CENTERED on the text box. Is that BlueSky or Apple? I know for a fact Apple can’t be bothered to ensure the fucking cursor stays centered on the visible portions of the screen while typing in iMessage so I’m leaning heavily on this being Apple’s fault. Again: it wasn’t this bad before iOS 26. More screen space on larger devices helps a little but does not solve the inherent architectural failures of this motherfucking shitty UI design (and it looks cluttered and confusing). That all these things demand time to animate their constantly shifting positions is further abuse of the user for Apple’s masturbatory indulgence.

It has occurred to me that my young childhood recollection of the dehydrated child in a barrel may have gotten mixed with my recollection of the Alex Beta Unit from The Last Starfighter (1984) (I always felt bad for the Beta Unit)
Fairly creepy animated gif of a "beta unit" forming his face to be a copy of someone else, from a scene in "The Last Starfighter". It's a wet, pale, semi-skeletal face with the skin pulsing in and out, and seemingly no eyelids. Not exactly gory, but it shocked me as a kid. Great movie, fun character, and I will always feel bad that Alex and Beta Unit Alex didn't get a chance to know each other and that Beta Unit Alex deserved better...

Screen shot from “Konrad”, a TV movie about a mall-order child. Image is looking down on a sort-of dehydrated boy, crouching in a large powder-blue 50 gallon drum…

Space Quest 3 went there, too
Screenshot from Space Quest 3, a 1989 adventure game by Sierra On-line with 16-color, 320x200 EGA graphics (most of the screenshot is composed of grey, CGI pink/red, and blue). Screenshot is at the in-game location of “ScummSoft”, an evil software company. The image features rows of programmers in small cubicles, above and between them on two catwalks are larger guys walking back and forth cracking whips (which were based on executives at Sierra at the time of the game’s development). A much larger cubicle is off to the right side of the screen, as well as the game player’s character Roger Wilco (wearing grey janitor’s overalls to blend in since he’s not supposed to be there, but Roger is himself actually really a janitor, as seen in Space Quest 1 & 2 so the outfit is appropriate).

As angry as [waves arms around] all this gets us, it’s healthy to seek & acknowledge the beauty that persists, and to be kind to those who aren’t doing us harm. I know this sounds like cliched platitude. Getting physical activity and seeing beauty in the cracks (and fellow thinkers) keeps me sane.

In the lawsuit, the waitresses recalled the events that took place in September 1994 including accusing the managers of fondling them, employees discussing sexual encounters and obscenities and other sexual and inappropriate behavior. They accused the restaurant of not regularly changing the cooking oil including after the Barbie doll incident. One of the waitresses also accused a manager of demoting and eventually firing her after she complained.[18] The lawsuit went to trial in federal court in 1998[19] and, according to a 2000 book, the jury ruled in favor of Hoss's[20] though other details about the case have not been found.

Because I want to help pollinators (I’m aware my individual acts are nothing in comparison to societal policy that’s destroying everything), I risk being harassed by the borough by keeping wildflower spaces in my yards. Here’s a side benefit: photos of beauty!

Another modification of the “that foreigner wants your cookie” painting where Rupert Murdoch is propagandizing a white working man about being afraid of his cookie being taken by a brown-skinned immigrant… in this one, Murdoch is literally encased in ALL THE COOKIES. I forgot to put alt text on the prior one I shared which is the same concept, except Murdoch’s got a huge pile of cookies instead of just a bunch (in all cases, the immigrant has zero). The original artist’s name is never shared and I forget who it is, but his Facebook profile is public and the original painting (which these posts are replying to) is there in his image gallery.

My GF thinks this “Sun Spider” looks like Prince Harry. I think it’s the absolute craziest goddamned thing she’s ever said to me, but… …I kinda see it… 🤪😅
A pale orange spider-type creature that’s ugly as sin and I think you’d be better off if I didn’t describe it. The fucker looks like it was created for a scifi horror. It has a very large abdomen that almost looks albino scorpion-like without a stinger, and it has extra … thingies coming out of its head that look like legs but probably aren’t (??). Its head looks like a ginger white man with beady eyes too close together, and its giant-ass mouth parts look like a beard. Does not look like a British royal.Photo of Prince Harry with a beard. Does not look like a spider.

Sticking with cats as a theme… GF sent this to me, saying: “Over the years I’ve seen some pretty weird images on Amazon product pages, but that has to be one of the weirdest! Was it necessary to Photoshop lipstick, blush, and mascara onto the cat? 🤔”
Amazon marketplace product screenshot. What stands out is the product photo (??) of a soft-canvas (?) blue & black cat carrier on plain white background: Sticking out of the open cat carrier is a deeply uncanny valley cat that’s been edited into place. It’s not enough that the cat has been awkwardly composited into the carrier, no no no. Whoever created this image, to advertise this pet carrier on Amazon, also chose to apply fucking makeup to the cat’s face. Human makeup. Mascara. Lipstick. Giant, human-styled, fake eyelashes. Blush. What the goddamned fuck? The cat’s mouth is open and its tongue is protruding as if licking delicious gourmet cat food off of its cheek. I’m not sure that tongue is even a real tongue; it too may be composited or drawn in. The choices made here for this product image are beyond baffling.

I finally realize what movie villain this guy’s awful staff photo reminds me of:
Gene Simmons playing the bad guy in the 1984 sci-fi movie “Runaway”, holding a fantastical “bullet with your name on it” gun to the cheek of a woman hostage in a scene from the film. Fun-schlocky 80s sci-fi film, BTW.

Southern catalpa. These are spread all over the ground underneath their trees now. I think I walked through about four spots of these, maybe more. First time I’ve taken a photo. Good walk today. Listened to Depeche Mode.
Subject: A mostly white flower that looks vaguely like an orchid (is that remotely helpful in alt text?), with slight streaks of purple spreading outward from the core, that end up as speckles toward the outer areas of three of the four(?) large curly petals (top petal is just white). There are two bright yellow streaks at about 4 & 7 o’clock, coming from the inside of the flower core, like landing strips for the insects they’re probably intended to attract.

Background (blurry): my hand holding this discarded flower, and, further back, the paved walkway of a rail-trail, with lots more of these discarded flowers scattered around. Tiny bit of grass at the top left.

I’m not sure what any of this is and iOS fails to help because it’s a clump of different plants crowded together and plant ID considers only one subject per photo 🤷🏽‍♂️ It’s very pretty though. The purple flower might be Browallia speciosa. It looks superimposed due to coloring & camera peculiarities.
A conglomeration of pretty and colorful plants and flowers. The primary subject from the center to the left is a curly yellow-edged red-leafed plant I haven’t identified. On the far right is a tiny yellow flower I also haven’t identified. Above that is a bright purple flower that’s possibly Browallia speciosa. Then there are green leaves and a mostly blue sky above. Okay NOW I’m going to go make a sammich!
