Even as an actual degree-holding, published artist, I'm moderately pro-AI (in general). I tend to view the issues we're seeing as more of a problem with humans (mostly the corporate, profit-driven humans shoving it down everyone's throats, sucking up vast resources, engaging in what is quite […]

Gee, thanks for randomly changing the look of container icons, #Firefox. Just what I wanted, icon colors that are harder to distinguish.

Last weekend I started writing a Lua script for FrSky Ethos radios. It does the same thing as the usual droidbuilder KyberPad script (adds virtual buttons to the touch screen), except my version supports more "pages" of virtual buttons, because KyberPad's 3-page limit is not enough for @ironmse […]

For a long time, I've derived more enjoyment from introducing people to stuff than being introduced myself. I sometimes watch react content for the same reason. Seeing my favorite things through fresh eyes is often the closest I can get to when I first saw them. Movies, TV shows, Neuro-sama […]

Literally talked about hacking Star Trek communicator badges with @sammachin at the London #HomeAssistant meetup this evening, then read this hackaday.com/2026/02/25/control-you…
hackaday.com
Control Your Smart Home With Trek-Inspired Comm Badge
One thing some people hate about voice control is that you need to have a process always running, listening for the wake word. If your system isn’t totally locally-hosted, that can raise some privacy eyebrows. Perhaps that’s part of what inspired [SpannerSpencer] to create this 24th century solution: a Comm Badge straight out of _Star Trek: The Next Generation_ he uses to control his smart home. This hack is as slick as it is simple. The shiny comm badge is actually metal, purchased from an online vendor that _surely_ pays all appropriate license fees to Paramount. It was designed for magnetic mounting, and you know what else has a magnet to stick it to things? The M5StickC PLUS2, a handy ESP32 dev kit. Since the M5Stick is worn under the shirt, its magnet attached to the comm badge, some features (like the touchscreen) are unused, but that’s okay. You use what you have, and we can’t argue with how easy the hardware side of this hack comes together. [Spanner] reports that taps to the comm badge are easily detected by the onboard accelerometer, and that the M5Stick’s microphone has no trouble picking up his voice. If the voice recordings are slightly muffled by his shirt, the Groq transcription API being used doesn’t seem to notice. From Groq, those transcriptions are sent to [Spanner]’s Home Assistant as natural language commands. Code for the com-badge portion is available via GitHub; presumably if you’re the kind of person who wants this, you either have HA set up or can figure out how. It seems worth pointing out that the computer in _Star Trek: TNG_ did have a wake word: “computer”. On the other hand it seemed the badges were used to interface with it just as much as the wake word on screen, so this use case is still show accurate. You can watch it in the demo video below, but alas, at no point does his Home Assistant talk back. We can only hope he’s trained a text-to-speech model to sound like Majel Barrett-Roddenberry. At least it gives the proper “beep” when receiving a command. This would pair very nicely with the LCARS dashboard we featured in January.

I like #HomeAssistant, I really do, but sometimes things really. piss. me. off. The new overview dashboard for example. Can't disable it. Can't rewrite it. Can't hide it or restrict it with permissions (not that it'd matter for the admin). So naturally, whenever I log into my instance through […]

I've been playing around with #Hytale modding recently, especially adding new models. On a lark, I decided to start adding @ironmse.bsky.social to the game. Here's the WIP model. Getting around Orbis is going to be a bumpy ride with those wheels...
The photo shows a blocky, low-polygon model of a Mouse Droid from Star Wars. The droid has pink coloration, a purple greeble rack on top, white tires on pink wheels, and the sides are adorned with a dark grey panel and a white horns. The model does not yet have Iron MSE's hair or her front ribbon and bell.

Bubi's new throne took a bit over 16 hours to print. It has a channel to allow sound to travel from the speaker in the trailer to the throne's open back. If bare speaker (trailer top & throne removed) is 100%, then I estimate: Top, but no throne = 98% New throne = 95-96% Old throne: < 85%

I've printed replacements for Iron MSE's horns to support magnetic attachment instead of the original press fit horns (and pogo pins, if I want to add horns that need power for LEDs or something). #Droids #DroidBuilding #StarWars #VTubers

[Spoilers for Milky Subway Ep 12] Here are some random tidbits from the finale of #MilkySubway (Episode 12). Spoiler protection SWITCH ON. Firstly, in case anyone was curious about the date and didn't catch it...
A purple computer disk styled similar to a 3.5 inch floppy disk. The casing is embossed with the text "Athena Disk Drive" and the blue and white label also reads "Athena Super Disk Drive" in English, with Japanese text in the upper right corner.

The Japanese text handwritten on the label (as indicated by the subtitles) reads "Makina's Personality Backup from April 6, 2001".

This is Chiharu, for reference.
A pink-skinned, enhanced-human girl with short brown hair, large dark eyes, elfin ears, and two smooth pink antennae protruding from her forehead. She is wearing an oversized white tunic-style garment going from her upper arms to mid thigh, with a dark haltar underneath. She is standing in front of a subway car, turning to look back at the viewer. She is holding a long-handled brush-like tool in her right handA pink-skinned, enhanced-human girl with short brown hair, large dark eyes, elfin ears, and two smooth pink antennae protruding from her forehead. She is wearing an oversized white tunic-style garment with an 80s vibe to the design on the chest: a line-art triangle pointing down and the cursive text "Ghost" and below that "in the Snail Shell" in a smaller font size, angled and the underlined. A cute pin is attached to the garment at the upper right corner of the triangle, above the letter "T" in "Ghost". A dark colored haltar is worn underneath, the straps visible on her shoulders. She is standing in a subway car, with her eyes wide, looking slightly upward.

It's completely unrelated to either #StarWars or #ironmouse (though the creator likes hololive), but I've really been enjoying the Milky Galactic Universe (Milky Highway/Milky Subway on youtube). Considering giving Iron MSE a Chiharu Kujo cosplay. She's already pink, after all... #MGU

I think that Mousey would appreciate this photo with Ruby Rhod (Cult of the Marriott Carpet edition) at #DragonCon2025. Unbelievable! #FifthElement #StarWars #Droids #VTubers #DragonCon #IronmouseArt

Tips for #Expedition33: Equip new Pictos for at least 4 battles to learn them, so everyone can use as Luminas. Each battle they see lights up one side of the diamond icon border and color the icon a bit. Stat boosts aside, each character's Pictos slots should otherwise favor their most […]
