Yea that is how it works here in rural Michigan. Township funds go to the fire department. Again, I am not sure how else you’d afford it. Fire gear runs 10k per firefighter. Fire engines can be 500k used and 1.2-2 million brand new.

I have no clue what type of “fire company” you are talking about then because every rural firehouse I am aware of voluntary or not is municipal. Because that is how they get grants to afford the gear and fire engines to actually combat fires.
