We're about 11 episode away from finishing it up and I'd still say I like it, although don't love it. Shame, as it doesn't do anything wrong, but doesn't have as strong moments or cast as other series before it. at least the wings of light are cool af

After some time away from the show, it really registered how much I appreciate this show's much more grounded and "real" sense of death caused through warfare. It's one thing to see Amuro's mom struggle with his place in the OYW, but another to see Uso help the family of the enemy find closure.

hi! hello! been a while huh After months of other stuff, my friend and I are finally back on the Victory grind. Feels like the perfect point to stop at too, as seeing Uso fight back more BESPA soldiers breaking the ceasefire - only to then deal with the emotional ramifications - seems only expected

20 More, Somehow Even Smaller, Mazes (2026) FLEB makes another great puzzle game, once again. Not much to say about this one - it definitely has this energy of "less narrative here, enjoy just more mazes" but I liked the theming and solutions for a lot of these more than the first.

A huge amount of mazes are displayed on the screen, one overlapping another. An orange magnifying glass is also towards the right.

KAIJU GIRL CARAMELISE (2026) Enjoyed this so much more than I expected! It does a good job of making both its drama and comedy not feel out of place with each other, outside of some unfortunate character tropes. Wraps up nicely for 12 ep + makes for a great watch pairing w/Goodbye Lara this season!

Jaagudar: A Witch in Mongolia (2026) Such a great show! I just wish did a 2-cour instead of making me wait 😩 I like that it does find a really good balance of making you side with Sitara throughout, but still avoid doing blanket "good/evil" calls. I liked their framing for Ögedei's ambitions too.

Ozark (Season 1, 2017) Really good TV, but just not enough to keep me to moving to the next seasons. I think it does a great job of keeping up this constant feeling of "just barely staying alive" - I just don't need to watch 4 seasons of that lmao. I do plan to start Lanterns & Shogun tho.

Kamen Rider Zeztz (2025) A somewhat solid season, tho I feel like the first two thirds were way better paced and written than the ending. I like Baku & Nem, but not enough for the rest of the cast to get 0 depth. Also beyond the two final enemies, rather weak villains too. Hope MY-TH is good!

Lucas Wars (2023) Poetic and well told bio graphic novel on George Lucas' start & the production of the first Star Wars. I think the pacing on this is really immaculate, especially given how the first third really focuses on his childhood and fighting to even get started. Strong rec for sure.
A two page spread from the book Lucas Wars.

The left page displays a full color fantastical battle, showing swashbuckling heroes, a giant lizard fighting a three headed hydra and two spaceships flying toward the sky. In the center of the page is a small monochrome colored boy, cross-legged on the ground. Below the illustration reads: "Under that deadpan exterior, however, George's inner world is bubbling over."

The right page has three panels. The first panel shows a young George watching an episode of Flash Gordon, with a speech bubble from Flash saying "We have to save the Earth from this army of androids!" Off to the left, the narrator states: "He lives in the realm of his favorite heroes, a realm where Flash Gordon reigns supreme."

The second panel shows George and his friend reading on a lawn, with a scattering of books spread around them. The narrator states: "...and Tommy Tomorrow* a close second." George says "In this issue, we discover Captain Wood's dad is actually his worst enemy, the pirate, Mart Black!", while his friend exclaims "Nooo!" (At the bottom of the page clarifies Tommy Tomorrow is a DC comic about a twenty-first century space cop.)

The last panel shows a slightly older George reading on the floor of a living room, with another child playing with toys in the background. Above the panel, the narrator states: "George Lucas is a dreamer. And while his parents worry for his future, he has a happy childhood."

THE GHOST IN THE SHELL (2026) A really fun and dedicated adaptation of the source. Normally I'd like these to take more risks to stake itself from just reading the manga, but GitS lacking something telling the book's cases made this one welcome. Saru nailed this (+ great English dub!)

Variable Geo (1996) Again on my "old FG anime" bullshit, slightly better than it had right to be. That said, nothing real different from the norm - a very meh OVA plot that's very dry and goes by quick. Seeing as VG's source is what it is too, it's also explicit when it really doesn't need it.

5 Centimeters per Second (2007) I so desperately wish Shinkai didn't have such a death grip on everyone; didn't vibe with this one much. "Cherry Blossoms" (the first story) I liked a LOT - very sweet story set with the anxiety of a long ride with a vital destination - the rest was not my bag.

Nyoron! Churuya-san (2009) look, I felt like feeling old, okay I was always curious about this, having seen all the memes at the time - it's actually pretty charming! Obviously incredibly one note and not as good as other gag shorts, but still worth the 20 minutes. Even for non-Haruhi fans!

Carrot Kingdom! (2026) Soooo good. Takes under 20 min to beat, but really well paced. Hoping shoma makes this into a full title like MotionRec but even here the puzzle design is so polished. Also does a great job of letting the player feel that delight of seeing how to make use of prior areas well.

Rec (2006) Just OK? It gets some credit for not dancing around adult romance as much (it only has so much runtime so it has to), but other than that and the neat voice acting central premise, not much to write home about.

Itsuka Minoreba, by Asuka Nishi ♻️ Felt like seeing if this FG manga I liked was still good... it somewhat is? It's def. way drier than my memory gave it credit for, but because of that + great translation + the contrast of the characters vs. in-game matches makes it still stand out. Worth a read!
A set of panels from the manga Itsuka Minoreba, by Asuka Nishi.

Shijou asks 'Double-X-Two-Chan' the question: "What do you want to get out of playing video games?".

Confused, she responds in the next panel - displaying a Yoshimitsu-like character delivering an uppercut to a shoto-esque character - "To beat the hell out of other people through the game..."

In the final panel, a close up is shown of 'Double-X-Two-Chan' saying "If you're just beating the hell out of the CPU, you don't need a competitive game for that." "No, I want to fuck up a living human being..."

A small aside bubble shows Shijou, shocked and saying "...I guess it's not like I don't understand."

LUPIN the III: The Woman Called Fujiko Mine (2012) Wish I didn't put off watching this so long, I loved it. It struggles w/making Fujiko an object to tell the others' stories more than hers, but it does an incredible job weaving an interesting tale & showing how the gang met. Excited for the films!

THE BRONZE (2021) The Cat Who Fell to Earth (2026) I wanted to read more of Remy's work (which you can find here: slimgiltsoul.itch.io) & found these two + 920London. Didn't like either of these as much as The Pervert but they're also much shorter. TCWFTE is something I'd love to see expanded tho!

The Pervert, by Remy Boydell (2018) An incredible comic about not just sex work, but also sense of place. Incredibly brutal at times (arguably most), but also poetic & vulnerable throughout. I don't think queer media always has to involve struggle of some kind but this felt vital for its time imo.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day (2026) It's fine - prob. my favorite & best Holland Spider-Man film to date. Didn't leave me w/ the same feeling I had from Homecoming the first time tho. It does a good job not being another MCU tie-in thing, but I don't like the reliance on old cast here. (w/o spoiling)

A whole lot of Tomie, by Junji Ito (1987) Went through the original run, the 2001 sequel chapters and some one-shots. It's nice to finally read some of Ito's core and famous work; he does such an incredible job with tension and dread. Also, I love Tomie - she's much funnier than I expected!

The next panel shows the painter holding the painting towards Tomie, stating: "Here, see it!" "This is my masterpiece!" The final panel shows only Tomie's face in reaction to seeing her painting - displeased and upset at both the painter's demeanor and the painting itself.

Love Me for Who I Am (2018) Enjoyed this a fair bit. I think some of the drama & characterization is really forced cause of the short # of chapters, but I was surprised how much I liked the main character & the art's great too. The first bit does feel a bit "PSA" like, but it thankfully moves fast.

IGPX (2005) I was really hoping I was wrong about this one when it aired - nah, still didn't like it. The idea is cool, but all of the characters here are soooo flat. The main throughline (the GP) doesn't have enough intrigue and none of the side plots are given time to flourish. Hope S2 is better.

Summer Ghost (2021) REALLY surprised how good of a movie this was for such a small runtime. (40 min!) I think it's a case were you really do get a lot more out of this going in blind, but I enjoyed the cast here a lot. I think there's some elements that I would've changed, but well worth the watch!

It's probably my favorite part of the show! I do like the main four too, but they really build on those two at a nice pace. The reference offer in the last episode was so sweet 😭 I also sorta remembered Kou and Rin's relationship but it's so much more gay than I remembered lmao

The Ramparts of Ice (2026) Very straightforward but solid romance drama, but w/ well done pacing and suspense. Not crazy abt the current status quo by the ending but it's def. doing its job of keeping me excited for the next season. Polar Opposites & this are such perfect foils for each other!

NEW GAME! (2016)♻️ After School Dice Club got me curious on if I'd still like this as much as I did when it aired - I still do! There's some enjoyable bits from the game dev side of things, but definitely stands as more as a workplace comedy vs. anything else. Now to finally watch S2...
