Very belated post but this Barbie is published!!! A huge thank you to @askjerseth.bsky.social for giving me the opportunity to co-author this chapter and to Hilary Radner and Rebecca Stringer for accepting it within the volume!

Just saw Wicked and behind us in the cinema was the epitome of masculinity who scoffed EVERY TIME singing started. Like... My guy you know that trailers exist right? It's not like the film wasn't VERY CLEARLY marketed as an adaptation of a MUSICAL

Just a philosopher here to say that the idea that biology is a social construct goes back in Western philosophy to at least the 1940s, nothin 21st c about that idea

Music is emotion. It is emotion expressed and made tangible. But when it’s live it’s fleeting still - it soars up and vanishes. It’s impermanent and impossible to catch (we can catch it now thanks to digitizing and albums etc). But music is emotion brought to life. It’s such an incredible thing.

One issue I'm finding with Star Wars as my thesis's main case study is that when pulling clips I end up just sitting and watching an entire film after I've captured the clip

The word “dildo” arose in 16th Century England, and for decades was used as a filler word in songs, much like “la dee dah” is used today. The result is a couple of old English tunes for lute and countertenor that use the word “dildo” extensively, like this one by Thomas Morley.

The issue with Dune having a “Butlerian Jihad” is I read it as a holy war led by Judith Butler

Yeah this is why the word 'narrative' is broken in games. It literally means the choices you make when telling a story. It doesn't mean 'story' (the whole thing) or 'plot' (the events) or 'writing' (the words to tell it). So this is just literally narrative design - storytelling through design.
