Cyanotypes, an Alternative Process Workshop
Presented by the International Center of Photography
Thursday, July 23, 2026
From 6pm to 7pm
Sunset Park Library
5108 4th Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11220
Cyanotype, or “sun print”, is a photographic process that gained in popularity in the
nineteenth century. Alice Austen made prints for display from her glass plate negatives
through a process called contact printing. Using vintage glass plates from our
education collection, families will create cyanotypes with the help of our AAH teaching artists, using sun-powered printmaking to produce images on shirts, cotton pages, and sheets.

Based on the number of cameras set up outside MDC right now I’d guess yes. Talked to a (CNN Romania) reporter there who said he was too, but prob not for another 24 hrs bc he’s still at Guantanamo now.

I’m a member of my local friends of the library group (the Sunset Park branch of BPL). We're throwing a fundraising party Friday at Five Boroughs Brewing from 7-10pm. There will be raffle prizes, locally themed trivia, and the brewery is donating $2 from every pint purchased to our local branch.

Dropped off some books at The People’s Library outside BPL Central Library this morning and picked up a new picture book for my little one. This library shouldn’t be closed! Stop cop city and open the libraries.
Picture of Brooklyn Public Library’s central library. Foregrounded is a sign that says:

Welcome to the people’s library
Open the libraries
Close cop city

And you can see two tents in the background with people gathering and taking advantage of a free books swap and chatting about libraries.

I’m making chocolate chip cookies for my local Friends of the Library bake sale today. Great opportunity to come visit the new Sunset Park branch of Brooklyn Public Library.

I’m reading Sidney Harring’s book Policing a Class Society and learning about the history of police signal systems (call boxes) and patrol wagons, which the author describes as the most important technological innovation until the emergence of the radio equipped patrol car. So many of these in NYC.
A red call box on a snowy NYC street. One blue handle labeled “police” and one red handle labeled “fire”, if you zoom in you can see the instructions which says:
“To report an emergency
1. Lift cover
2. Push button
3. Answer operator
You must answer to get help”
