Did this myself with deleting insta (was never on tiktok) and turning off YT watch history (which gets rid of short recommendations so you can’t scroll besides subs). You really don’t notice not having it besides now not randomly spending 3hrs out of no where on shorts lol.

You joke but they used inflatables to trick the Nazis that D-Day was targeting a different location

And maybe this is too much but my main point is think less about what the job is and more so about what options that job/career path gives you in your everyday life. And also maybe where she sees herself living and what jobs make sense in those locations.

What does a good job sound like in her head? And if she doesn’t know, then (from my own experience) something like community college guarantees you could always figure it out later. So maybe even just start with a flexible life path that minimizes debt, while figuring out what matters to her later.

And of course she probably doesn’t know the answer to all of that, but kinda get her thinking about the material things different jobs offer/require of you. Like would you want to work overnight shifts, 12hr shifts, be able to work remote, etc.

If that is her mindset then maybe investigate what kinds of things she’d want in her life as an adult. Does she want to be able to go on lots of vacations, have a predictable work schedule, care about the morality of the work (ie help ppl vs make money), would she ever be comfortable being on call

Can we fuck off with the way we frame this technology as having conscious decisions rather than BUGS, it just doesn’t work right! It’s not a mistake, PEOPLE make mistakes. Give me a fucking break with this shit.

Imagine if we had systems in place that potential parents knew would take care of the needs of themselves and their family going forward instead of having to throw a large sum of money to overcome that feeling (while also not solving the underlying problems)

It just shows you how much is missing from society that they need to pay that much to actually reassure people their child won’t live in a constant state of precarity like they do

Nah watching a doc that said retirement age in Soviet Union was 60 for men and 55 for women, and you could keep working while keeping your pension if you wanted. Bring this shit back bro.

True I guess my mind was stuck on thinking of a player a team just traded for Iike Luka

Devon @dwja.bsky.social · 11/07/2026
Yeah I was wondering if those should be extended to all teams anyways with those proposed rules.

Devon @dwja.bsky.social · 11/07/2026
Are there cons to making it a league wide instead of incumbent?

Devon @dwja.bsky.social · 07/07/2026
In the end, I think American democracy is bullshit. The way it is presented as the system that is “just the best we got!” is asinine. There are issues that don’t need to be debated, we need to stop pretending there is legitimacy to anything a sizable portion of society has been led to believe.

The financial and healthcare related reasons someone may not seek accountability/support. Not to mention, the lack of settlements and NDAs that take advantage of victims lack of guarantees to necessities to buy silence would result in much more consequences for abusers.
100
Devon @dwja.bsky.social · 07/07/2026
And the victim shouldn’t need to come forward to prevent someone from accessing more influence and power they could use to take advantage of people again. And I’m not sure that second part gets solved immediately under communism, but the reorganization gives victims much greater support and removes…
100
Devon @dwja.bsky.social · 07/07/2026
is through those guarantees giving victims more opportunity to escape from horrible situations and to remove the financial/power restrictions on why accountability so rarely happens. You shouldn’t have to weigh supporting policy that helps people against believing a victim of SA as a voter.

Devon @dwja.bsky.social · 07/07/2026
If we had a society that organized around meeting peoples needs’ instead of exploiting peoples’ needs I think we could avoid these kinds of things (the first good sounding society is communism btw). It’s also to say I think the only way we really get to addressing problems like sexual violence…
100
Devon @dwja.bsky.social · 07/07/2026
Kind of a long thread that veered from the Platner point, but the broader point is why I’m a communist. Spending our time worrying about debating with a half of society that wants every minority to disappear or taken advantage of, leads to us making compromises to shit men like this.
110
Devon @dwja.bsky.social · 07/07/2026
BC realistically, all that discrimination is used as justification to withhold those guarantees from people and/or to take advantage of their labor. The democracy should be seen in how best to carry out these guarantees rather than the debating of if they should exist.
110
Devon @dwja.bsky.social · 07/07/2026
Much like racism and the like is seen as outside the realm of acceptable limits of freedom of speech, there needs to be equal responses to people who don’t think there should be guarantees of housing, healthcare, etc.
110
Devon @dwja.bsky.social · 07/07/2026
There’s a need for a society that has that kind of policy guaranteed and without fear of retaliatory deregulation of it in the future. Things like healthcare, housing, education, and etc. don’t need to be debated, because you’re only getting allowances from the people who control those resources atm

It really just shows the farcical nature of US democracy, because it’s built on false freedom of choice. There should be no need to rely on individual candidates to have a chance of good policy.
110
Devon @dwja.bsky.social · 07/07/2026
If there was real freedom to have a wide range of options in these elections not many would’ve settled for the Nazi tattoo guy. I’m sure a lot of people would’ve been like “oh nice, there’s another option with progressive options instead of nazi tattoo guy!” Instead it was just Janet Mills lmao.
100
Devon @dwja.bsky.social · 07/07/2026
Was desperation for some hope those ideas could get enacted if he won the seat. I think this also shows how little options of choice people get in US democracy, because Platner obviously had some political machine backing from the beginning with the rollout of his campaign.
100
Devon @dwja.bsky.social · 07/07/2026
We would’ve avoided this Platner problem earlier. Still, I think if you reduce his popularity to simply being white and a man you’d be missing half the story. Between him and Mills, he actually was showing support for popular policies, and I think the reason people gave him so much leeway…
100
Devon @dwja.bsky.social · 07/07/2026
Platner thing was pretty predictable. Going from here, I’ll be pretty annoyed if we get someone to his (public-facing) right politically. On a grander scale, I think we should hold people in “progressive” leadership to higher standards even though opponents to the right will be less likely to do so.

It is NOT a system that has any desire to improve peoples lives and solve problems in permanent ways. It is purely profit drive and addresses problems by happenstance or by the whims of the wealthy. THIS IS BAD! We should not allow our lives to be dictated by the contradictions of capitalism!
000
Devon @dwja.bsky.social · 03/07/2026
This is not effective and is abandoning billions into poverty on purpose, while leading the actual planet into catastrophic climate change because the wealth has convinced them they can avoid all the problems that come with that
100
Devon @dwja.bsky.social · 03/07/2026
We are forced into accepting this reality because of the immense siphoning of wealth and consequently power into the hands of the few who get to make even more decisions on society’s behalf.
100
Devon @dwja.bsky.social · 03/07/2026
Everything in society is being done in a shittier way so that someone can make sure they are making money off of it instead of creating actual solutions to problems
100
Devon @dwja.bsky.social · 03/07/2026
Yeah that makes sense, I feel like a majority of problems already have suitable ideas to address them. But due to the intertwined nature of the government and markets we just get what is best for short-term profit margins rather than real investment in solutions.
