2/ The 2026 edition of #soulcrusher had heavy hitters, rare sights and surprises. We could only attend day two but that's how the day felt. In order of apparition, we were particularly pummeled, awed and/or pleasantly surprised by #anciients #kingwoman #sylvaine #livinggate and #conan

After 30 long years, Swiss #thrashmetal legends #coroner tour the Netherlands again! We had the pleasure to see them shred at #nobel in #leiden Their new material is a logical evolution of their classic albums, from which they pulled several bangers. #schizophrenia and #tarpond opened the evening.

#hawkwind has been rocking since 1969 and inspiring generations of artists and music lovers. Clocking at nearly two hours their performance at #tivolivredenburg was the space trip we needed: heavy, psychedelic, introspective, inspiring. This gleaming silver machine took us places.

Traveling from cosmic spheres unknown, two strange UFOs landed in the #rotterdam harbor. One carried #devoidofthought the other #Pyrrhon The bands convened in the hold of the #Vessel11 boat and delivered waves of sci fi and experimental #deathmetal to a select group of connoisseurs.

It’s well known that the best way to start any week is with a brutal, cavernous #deathmetal gig! Luckily, #morbific and #funebrarum were hitting #dbsutrecht Both bands steamrolled through a crushing set to the standard of their recorded material. Highly recommended.

#aaronstainthorpe #markdeeks and #joquail were at #stadsklooster in #utrecht tonight to play music by Arð, Jo Quail and My Dying Bride as well as improvised pieces. On the piano and cello. Beautiful, haunting, somber, hopeful #doommetal on the piano and cello.

2/ Majestic, powerful, this was #emperor at its very best, #blackmetal royalty going from its roots to the more progressive parts of its catalogue. Seeing Faust and Mortiis on stage made the whole thing even more brilliant. We left #grieghallen and #beyondthegatesfestival smiling like idiots.

Dutch Metal Scene / Amsterdam Metal Scene @dutchmetalscene.bsky.social · 02/08/2026

1/ O joy! What an honor and privilege to have witnessed so much! Day four of #beyondthegatesfestival started with a high for us thanks to the always excellent #gaahlswyrd #arcturus and #alcest We expected #emperor to close the festival in style but frankly we were not prepared to be awed so much.

3/ Day three of #beyondthegatesfestival closed with #bloodincantation and #MortuaryDrape (late set back at Kulturhuset). Like Electric Wizard’s performance on the previous day, BI’s will be one to remember.

2/ Day three of #beyondthegatesfestival at #grieghallen ended with #marduk and #bloodincantation who awed everyone present. This was the last European date of their Absolute Elsewhere tour. They also played from their first two albums.

Dutch Metal Scene / Amsterdam Metal Scene @dutchmetalscene.bsky.social · 01/08/2026

1/ Day three of #beyondthegatesfestival started at Kulturhuset but then switched to the legendary #grieghallen for the evening sets, which were at USF on day one and two. The #blackmetal genre opened with #vafurlogi #doldvordeensnavn then #misotheist #whoredomrife

Dutch Metal Scene / Amsterdam Metal Scene @dutchmetalscene.bsky.social · 31/07/2026

2/ Day two of #beyondthegatesfestival proceeded with #blackmetal and #doommetal courtrsy of #forteresse (vive le métal noir québécois) #1349band (relentless) #warning (melodic and inspiring) #electricwizard (massively heavy)

Back to #bergen for #beyondthegatesfestival 2026. Day one featured #castlerat #imhatarikat #rottingchrist (a special old school set) #spectralwound #testament and #sventevith i.e. a rendition of Behemoth’s first album with Nergal joined by the good folks of #misthyrming Three more days to go.

4/ #stonehengefestival 2026 ended with Swedish #deathmetal heavies #grave and their first performance in NL since the original lineup reunited and crawled out of the, errm well… grave! What a morbid way to end the 2026 edition.

Mad gig at #patronaathaarlem tonight. #punkrock icons #theDwarves joined #sludgemetal #nola heroes #eyehategod Punk and metal gigs make for some of the best gigs usually. Both bands generated a deep circle pit and a large number of crowd surfers. Brilliant!

Fans of #heavymusic got their fill tonight at #patronaathaarlem Four bands covering a wide spectrum shared the stage: #Hulder #kylesa #OranssiPazuzu and #solstafir The last two had toured together in November 2024. We were reminded how well they complement each other. What a fun, eclectic gig.

It’s #thursdeath again! The new #soulburn is out. It’s a bit of a departure from previous releases but still provoked a good deal of foot tapping and head banging. Give it a listen. soulburn666.bandcamp.com/album/quanti...

Let #deathmetal beat the Tuesday blues! The newly rebuilt #baroeg in #rotterdam hosted #sinsaenum and #possessed No neck was spared! Much of what we call Death Metal today wouldn’t be the same without Jeff and Possessed, we are always thankful to hear these genre defining tunes live.

Back to NL right on time for yet another fine #deathmetal concert at #MusicOn This was a mid afternoon affair with #damnation #AshenTomb and #inhumancondition on their first European tour. We couldn’t really say no to that. Good vibes, great music. Go and see them if they play near you!

2/ The fest proceeded with #sabathan and headliners #thelaws who played a selection of classics from Brazilian legends #sarcofago Co-founder Gerald Incubus and early drummer Armando Leprous joined in. #vomitmessiah closed the evening. What a great #blackmetal and #deathmetal event.

1/ Once in a while a gig is announced months in advance with scant details yet you know right away it will be one not to miss. That was the case for the #blackkhaosassault fest at #magasin4 in #brussels featuring #FiliiNigrantiumInfernalium #cavemancult #Adorior (j’adore!) #abysmallord

2/ The last day of #southofheaven 2026 ended with #nola veterans #corrosionofconformity (seen too seldom on this side of the world) #cavaleraconspiracy (revisiting #chaosad for most people’s delight) and headliners #BlackLabelSociety (as heavy as a heavy thing). Good times.

Dutch Metal Scene / Amsterdam Metal Scene @dutchmetalscene.bsky.social · 08/06/2026

1/ #southofheaven 2026 is over. The last day was dry and sunny, started for us with #FlotsamAndJetsam (finally! they rock) #deathtoall (always awesome) and #septicflesh (a nighttime gig in a dark venue would have been a better match for their musical style though they made the most of the situation)

010

Dutch Metal Scene / Amsterdam Metal Scene @dutchmetalscene.bsky.social · 07/06/2026

3/ #thrashmetal giants #megadeth closed day two of #southofheaven 2026. Newer material and older classics were delivered with the same incisive technique. Thinking this is very probably the last time they play in NL is tough. The alliance to slay all the giants has failed. #megadeth rules.

Dutch Metal Scene / Amsterdam Metal Scene @dutchmetalscene.bsky.social · 07/06/2026

2/ #anthrax and #sepultura got warm receptions from the crowd at #southofheaven We thought Anthrax stood out for their high energy, positive, infectious #thrashmetal romp. They played a brand new song from their upcoming album.

1/ Back to #maastricht for the second edition of #southofheaven It wouldn’t be a Dutch open air festival without cold showers but luckily without last year’s glacial winds. We got there on Saturday afternoon right on time to enjoy #SevereTorture followed by #Hellripper #haywire #Dismember

Nothing can stop #deathmetal Not even a burning Marshall amp. #MusicOn in #denhaag was hosting #degraved #cadavericincubator #warpchamber and #cardiacarrest Each of them has its own spin on the genre yet it’s clear they all drank from the same hallowed, ancient wellsprings.
