Sunrise on Lowestoft beach. 🌅 The pier, the soft light, those clouds… Suffolk at its best. #Lowestoft #Suffolk #Sunrise #EastAnglia

You don't need to rebuild your whole life in a single day. One breath, one task, one small choice at a time is enough. Rooting for everyone taking quiet steps forward today. How are you taking care of yourself today? #BrainInjury #Resilience #DisabilityAwareness #MentalHealth

A quiet trip through Sweet Briar Marshes in Norwich on my Scoozy S800. Peaceful paths, wildlife, and a bit of breathing space not far from the city. #Norfolk #Countryside #MobilityScooter

The River Wensum in Norwich, perfectly still while the storm clouds gathered above it. I couldn’t have asked for a better illustration of “the calm before the storm”. #Norfolk

Different governments are using different language, but the machinery underneath is becoming remarkably familiar. In Britain, we are told the disability benefits system must become more “affordable”. #Disability #chronicillness #welfare

You look at a tree like this and the first thing you notice is its size. Big. Solid. Imposing. But most of what keeps it standing is underground, where nobody sees it. Funny how often strength works like that.

Lowestoft this afternoon. That is the British seaside. Half postcard, half working coast, with somebody always convinced buried treasure is six inches beneath the shingle.

Sometimes disability is this simple. I’m at the end of the boardwalk. My shadow is already on the beach. Close enough to see exactly where I want to be. Still not quite able to get there. #Disability

Maldon in Essex offers one of those views that immediately makes you stop and take everything in. Looking across the water from my powerchair, the low viewpoint brought the curve of the shoreline and salt marsh into the foreground, leading towards the church, boats and historic waterfront beyond.

Scooby is far more than an alternative mobility aid. He gives me the freedom to leave the pavement behind, explore the countryside and spend time surrounded by nature. #disability #countryside

The hardest part of my brain injury is something nobody can see. It isn’t the speech difficulties, the physical damage. It's that I no longer experience emotion. I understand emotions intellectually, but I cannot feel them as I did. You're welcome to read my blog post 👇

It was absolutely roasting yesterday, but this bear had the right idea: forget doing anything productive, find a pool and sit in it. 😂 Honestly, he may have been the wisest of us all. #Bear

After exploring Essex, the trip wasn’t over until my powerchair had some care. Two loose castor-fork bolts, four loose frame bolts and suspension to adjust. It’s now clean, oiled, serviced and ready for Wednesday’s adventure. What’s your first job after a trip? #Disability #WheelchairLife

Today we visited Maldon in Essex for a little more exploring and photography from the comfort of my power wheelchair. There was plenty to photograph along the waterfront, but spotting this little egret was the highlight for me.

A morning exploring around Steeple Bay in Essex from my powerchair. Open tracks, wide skies and views across the water. I even found a shady spot beneath a tree to sit for a while and take it all in. Not every path was open to me, but there was still plenty worth seeing.

Road trip to Essex for a long weekend, and we’ve just made the obligatory pit stop. It’s a road trip, so healthy food is strictly forbidden 😂🍔 #Roadtrip

My disability is part of my life, but it is not me. I would like to think I am more than the sum of my non-working parts. What I struggle with is the growing tendency to turn a diagnosis into an identity. I wrote more about it here:
dustywentworth.blogspot.com
While Disability Becomes an Identity Online, Disabled People Are Being Pushed Further Aside
Disability is becoming an online identity while disabled people face discrimination, inaccessible services, workplace barriers and growing hostility.

The beach was right there, but completely out of reach. ⛱️ Life in a wheelchair is definitely not “access all areas”. 👩‍🦼 Sometimes poor accessibility can make the world feel much smaller than it should.

Mindfulness has always been good for my mental health, especially my PTSD. Photography has become an excellent mindful activity. Time in nature and that single point of focus through the camera slow my thoughts and soothe my mind. Good job, because my photography still needs plenty of work.

The British countryside is beautiful, but for me, home will always be beneath Norfolk’s great, sprawling skies, surrounded by its fields. Taken while I was out on Marriott’s Way. #Norfolk #Countryside

This morning’s HRV score of just one means I’m resting and administering some self-care. So I’m following that most British of sayings: “A little bit of what you fancy does you good.” Crumpets with real butter, none of that margarine rubbish, and a piping hot cup of tea with my lunchtime tablets.
