What finally got me started on the journey to change after I moved back north was Pat Conroy's "The Prince of Tides." (Heavy trigger warnings apply here.) I take it to be the story of one man's mission to rehabilitate himself from the effects of toxic masculinity. Just as I'm trying to do now.

Telling on myself a bit here: I'm only now starting Year 2 of a detox of the last 20+ years of my prior "Fn$k the South" mentality. Tl;dr turns out my problem is less with the South broadly as with my toxic family who transplanted us there when I was young.
