It's Inarritu. His movies are all marketed around the technical achievements. Birdman's marketing was all around the uncut continuous action. Revenant's marketing made a big deal out of the natural cinematography and DiCaprio getting inside a bear.

I've made that very choice in my latest pilot script. 'Damn' always feels feel more impactful than any F- or S-bomb. I feel 'goddamn' works even better.

Speaking of Fry memes, thoughts on the Futurama/Disenchantment crossover?

The best part was Gilligan including his former BCS writers' assistant Valerie Chu into the speech, who also competed for the best writing category for The Pitt.

About time. Captain K'Vada of the Klingon Empire has been waiting for his moment of glory ever since he took Picard and Data to meet Spock on Romulus.

My first memory of him was playing a Klingon on TNG in the early 1990s. Captain K'Vada, responsible for driving Picard and Data to meet Spock.

Looks good. Nastuk directed episodes always do. I've always liked the way the show adopted some of the orphaned Futurama writers between its cancellations, similar to what happens on the Star Trek shows.

Personally, I find First Contact to be the finest film made for the Trek universe. VFX, soundtrack and story at their best. A perfect marriage. Interestingly, that Akira-class ship drawing looks very similar to the eventual final design of the NX-01 that debuted years later on Enterprise.

I imagine Vince Gilligan wishes he'd thought of this. It's up there with season 2's Ballad of Heisenberg teaser.

Same here. I finished it, but I've seen way better racing movies before and after. Felt like a discount Top Gun (and a waste of Nicole Kidman).

And it can't be any version of Police Squad either. It has to be one IN COLOR.

A riveting mix of TNG's Disaster and VOY's Deadlock while giving us the best Chapel story in the franchise. Easily the show's best episode in a long while. It encompasses the best aspects of Trek, and very reprsentative of its spirit, especially given the impending 60th anniversary.

Vince Gilligan shows are always bright, warm and colorful. Breaking Bad set that standard. The Pitt is John Wells ER, bright and clear. Widow's Bay can be on the dark side, but not flat or desaturated. Seven Kingdoms feels a bit like that, but I feel it's because of HBO's poor streaming.

I never had a Trek LEGO set before. But I did have a plastic version of the ENT-D at one point. It was tough to build, and it never quite held together. That saucer was way too heavy for the lower star drive section to support its weight. I guess that's why they filmed the thing upside down.

I would place GL up there with them any day. In an era of shakycam and needless closeups, I always go back to Star Wars for those sweet objective clear as day shots where you can always follow what's going on, even with lightning-fast cutting.

Spider-Man BND really raised the bar for VFX. It did things with those skyscraper scenes the previous entries could only dream of.
000
dudujencarelli.bsky.social @dudujencarelli.bsky.social · 01/08/2026
And Spider-Man BND just broke the opening box office record previously set by Avengers: Endgame. A Spider-Man movie that just happened to be directed by the co-creator of Wonder Man. I wouldn't want to be the studio executive who cancelled that show right now.

The minute Destin Daniel Cretton was announced as director, I knew the odds of it being great were high. After seeing Shang-Chi's behind the scenes footage, i trust Cretton to do justice to any source material with the utmost passion and dedication. Like Coogler, he elevates the MCU.

I agree about Netflix's tendency to appeal to the lowest common denominator. I was at a Netflix panel at Rio 2C last year, and that was the exact tone of the presentation. Very broad, very populist.

@cesarwegetit.bsky.social @mattselman.bsky.social I remember Talented Mr. Ripley well. Simpsley was one hell of an homage. Beautiful Italian background art, gruesome and violent, while still insanely fun, plus that perfect Mario/Wario gag. Easily the most rewatchable episode this season.

The world needs senate committee hearings on the ins and outs of data centers. I imagine if we're paying for digital purchases, we're also paying for the continued operation of those centers. Big tech cannot do as they please with our money.

I think this happens because studios are bent on only pleasing Generation X/Y audiences that are so attached to 1980s blockbusters that anything else made afterwards will always look artificial to them. With this mindset, they might as well bring back VHS in its low-def picture glory.

I love it that Belikova remains steadfast faithful and loyal to Russia despite what the regime has done to her. It's a good reminder that tyrants come and go, but genuine national identity can't be broken.

From what I hear, Roddenberry had major issues with the movie - especially the decision to destroy the Enterprise, which he took personally.

It's almost the same one as season 1, the only difference being Boreanaz added to them. I do enjoy it, but I think I prefer the redone music for the later seasons. More dramatic. I love the season 6 opening with Anya dancing to the theme music and the final shot of Buffy facing Glory.

There is nothing less efficient and more impractical than the advent of QR codes. Using a phone to film something to open up a freaking website? It just added an extra needless step to an already cumbersome process.

Raul Julia made such an arresting impression as Gomez in the 1990s, it took me a while to warm up to the Netflix series Wednesday and its complete different take on the character. And Julia was captivating in literally anything, even as M. Bison on Street Fighter.

Then I'm optimistic. While I wouldn't put it in the same league as First Contact, I honestly liked most of Insurrection. Good soundtrack, great locations and a nice episodic feel. If Mando & Grogu can deliver that, then it's already ahead of the likes of Solo and Rise of Skywalker.

To be fair, they did announce Boba at the very end of Mando S2, during the end credits. We knew it was coming, and it was likely to have Mandalorian easter eggs. And I have a hard time picturing a Star Wars fan choosing to skip a show, especially one focused on a classic trilogy villain.

It feels wrong not to have VOY's The Gift in the running. A tearful goodbye to Kes plus the emotional rollercoaster that is Seven of Nine being cut off from the Borg and forced into the VOY crew. It should have been there.

I watched it for the first time in January, right after my West Wing rewatch. Definitely not on WW's level. It's weird how the show set up Matt Albie as a ticking time bomb, and he ended up being the most level-headed character by far. Still, one of the better Perry performances.
