Had a bad migraine yesterday and feel like I am operating with cotton wool in my head today. Thanks, postdrome!

Please everyone hurry up and read this so I can gush over this with people (and it may not be the final but it is listed as 9 of 9)

It's great to have a discussion in book club about all the places the secret is kept: 1. In a shoebox under the bed 2. Under a pile of grocery store tote bags in the car boot 3. Your other purse 4. Oops you forgot it was a secret and told everyone in the village

The Love Hypothesis was more charming than I expected. Two love stories for the price of one! (and yes they lean into the fanfiction origins)

Anyway I did spend three hours watching part two of the DeGaulle biopic (without having seen part one) and it was absolutely delightful in an old-fashioned “CINEMA” way

Me: Sees superhero movies with the most ridiculous plots Also me: Refuses to pay money to see the new Sense and Sensibility because Colonel Brandon has a full beard and this is supposed to be 1811, not 1851

And I say this as someone with AuDHD who is a machine in the workplace but does a pisspoor job of taking care of myself. (also people are more than taxpaying resources but the excuse given for ADHD panic is that we are all workshy fakers too sheltered to interact with the real world)

Complaint: People with ADHD are clogging up the benefits system Solution: Remove access to the treatment that helps people with ADHD get and retain jobs it is never about actually solving a policy problem. It is about punishing people.

I just came from an event where I was wearing a shirt with an enormous black bow and a black floral blazer with a large multicoloured daisy print and everyone was asking me if I was okay because I was dressed kind of subdued

I don't really want to see images of the attacks today but I do want to remember how people responded and how this poster was all over the city in the fall and it was just so beautiful.

Milton Glaser's 2001 "I Love New York More Than Ever" with a singed heart icon representing the love. At the bottom of the poster it says. "Be generous. Your city needs you. This poster is not for sale." and is then signed Milton Glaser

So when I think about 9/11, I think about the people who just showed up to help, and the fact that there were so, so many of them, all just wanting to do what little bit they could, whether it was bringing water to rescue workers at the barriers on 14th Street or counseling all the volunteers.

070

Dude Points (what do I do now) @dudepoints.fun · 09/09/2026

And none of this was remarkable. The whole city was full of people who were helping. The New York Times had stories about the Baptist volunteers who gave up their vacation days to clean apartments in Battery Park City to make them habitable again.

By the end of the school year, I was volunteering at a former Bank on lower Manhattan, where people were applying for cash assistance and free air filters. There were temps there, so again, I mostly helped direct people to the right department.

Dude Points (what do I do now) @dudepoints.fun · 09/09/2026

As the weeks went on, my class schedule let me spent Fridays volunteering at Pier 54, the major intake site, where I served as a Chinese interpreter, mostly providing directions to different departments.

Dude Points (what do I do now) @dudepoints.fun · 09/09/2026

We had one person turn up - a man who had driven all the way from Michigan to try and help with the rescue efforts and needed to crash. I think I remember him trying to give us cash.
