Workers Deserve More From AOC! Read our statement on AOC’s recent contravening of our platform, and of her rejection of DSA membership! #workersdeservemore #demsocialists #aoc @aoc.bsky.social
Workers Deserve More From AOCIn a recent interview on ABC, Congressmember Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez publicly proclaimed that she is not a member of DSA nationally, and is only a local member of the New York City DSA chapter. DSA’s membership is not a part-in-part-out system; all members of our organization are members at the national level, with chapters being the local expression of our nationwide socialist organization. This discrepancy – intertwined with the previous fight over attempts to establish a local-only category of membership in NYC-DSA, further distancing members from our national efforts – undermines our democratically decided organizational model and DSA’s Constitution and Bylaws.
In addition to this, she also publicly contradicted several items of our democratically decided and Convention-authorized program, Workers Deserve More, opposing efforts to support abolitionist work and uplift indigenous communities by calling these and other aspects of the program “Woke 1”. This occurs as several tendencies in DSA have begun to push for an endorsement of an AOC presidential campaign, despite her not having even opened an exploratory committee yet as she is still currently in an active Congressional race.Members of DSA from across the country have been rightfully outraged about this, and we stand with them in calling for democratic accountability. Rather than fuel factional disputes and sow division among the membership, AOC should make her orientation to DSA clear. This is not the first time we have seen this type of underhanded conduct in relation to our organization from her, as she opposed basic democratic reforms and distanced herself from DSA’s electoral projects. Given her repudiation of our democratically decided program and structure, how can we expect her to uphold any socialist principles at all if elected into office?
We stand in opposition to these actions and statements from AOC, as well as her litany of disagreement with our policies and principles, including her vote to block the railworkers’ strike, opposition to the cutting of Iron Dome funding used to defend Zionist military forces conducting the genocide in Palestine, and refusal to comply with basic programmatic demands with regards to Palestine leading to the withdrawal of her national endorsement. We believe our involvement in electoral work should focus on strategic interventions to benefit the working class, not tailing capitalist politicians who refuse to submit to our democratic decisions. Further, we call for true organizational accountability for our candidates, electeds, and leaders, who should be fighting for the working class on our democratically decided platform rather than pursuing their own personal goals and interests within the establishment.Further, we call on the National Political Committee to investigate and clarify whether AOC is currently a member of DSA. If she is, the NPC should engage in a dialogue with her about public claims of non-affiliation and her contradictions of the Workers Deserve More program; if she fails to come back in line with our democratically decided positions, we call on the NPC to investigate and determine whether her positions, actions, and statements are in substantial disagreement with DSA’s policies and principles.
If you agree with these points and our other Points of Unity, and want an organization that holds our elected leaders accountable, we urge you to join LSC here. We further encourage all comrades critical of AOC and her behaviors demonstrated here to plan to run as delegates to the 2027 National Convention to ensure we have an organization that holds our elected officials accountable.

The Libertarian Socialists Caucus believes that the police must be abolished, and as such we have signed onto the Emerge Caucus statement on the NYPD. But we add that true power won't come from the right person in city hall. Sign: bit.ly/fundpeoplenotpolice #nypd #nyc #mamdani #nycdsa #socialism
DSA-LSC signs onto the Emerge statement in full support. But power over the police can only come from a working class organized to fight them from below, not from having the right person in City Hall.

“Failure to address the contradictions within our movement will only cede more ground to Tisch and the carceral state.” - Excerpt from DSA Emerge Caucus’s Statement

In "The Workers' Way to Freedom," Pannekoek warns that socialists in power often become "delegates of the capitalist class." When we hold office under capitalism, the pressure to manage the status quo, rather than transform it, is immense. 🧵 1/4
Also in this way a majority did not come soon enough. So to attain
some of its aims the Socialist Party had to make alliances, alliances with other parties. Sometimes in parliament, sometimes already at the polls, sometimes after the polls. This was called then “constructive policy,” which means: reduction of the workers’ demands to that minimum that even the capitalist class cannot seriously object to.
Now Socialists get government posts; they become town mayors,
aldermen, even ministers. Not as independent delegates of the working
class, but by the consent of their allies, delegates of the capitalist class. This is called “conquest of power step by step,” or “not being afraid of taking responsibilities.”
What are these responsibilities? As aldermen or ministers, they have
to manage the general affairs of state or town under capitalism. Of course they cannot take socialist measures. They have to conduct affairs for capitalism. They certainly try to get some reforms for the workers. As far as capitalism allows it. But most things they have to see to are interests of capitalist society.
So Social Democrats grow into the role of capitalist politicians.
Surely they are different from the hardboiled brutal type of capitalist
politicians, who uphold the authority of the ruling class by brute force.
They have more humanity, they introduce reforms, they try to smooth
down the class antagonism and to render capitalism more endurable.
They think themselves Socialist politicians, taking the first steps in transforming capitalism into socialism. But when fierce struggles arise, strikes
or hunger revolts, they have, as public officials, the duty to send police or
militia against the revolting workers. A Socialist mayor who assists the
strikers from public funds, and sends the police against the Pinkertons,
is a white raven and would be removed by a higher authority very soon.

The image portrays a scene set against the backdrop of a field at night under a starry sky. The main focus is on two soldiers, both dressed in khaki uniforms and wearing berets. They are holding aloft a the DSA flag.

In the background, there's a man standing next to a bush blooming with roses. Above them all, the phrase "For A Brighter Future" is written in bold letters against the night sky. The overall atmosphere of the image suggests a sense of hope and resilience.

LSC's position is clear: if DSA does not hold its electeds accountable to DSA's political mission, we will fail to advance our long-term goal of socialism and liberation in the United States and abroad. It's why we introduced our resolution to censure AOC well before her Iron Dome vote.
Tweet from DSA elected Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez: "Marjorie Taylor Greene's amendment does nothing to cut off offensive aid to Israel nor end the flow of US munitions being used in Gaza. Of course I voted against it. What it does do is cut off defensive Iron Dom capacities while allowing the actual bombs killing Palestinians to continue. I have long stated that I do not believe that adding to the death count of innocent victims to this war is constructive to its end. That is a simple and clear difference of opinion that has long been established. I remain focused on cutting the flow of US munitions that are being used to perpetuate the genocide in Gaza." LSC repudiates the content of this quoted tweet.

Body text under the white solid line:
R03 revamps the GDC through a variety of measures designed to improve coordination between chapters and national, as well as chapter training and cross-chapter communication.
Our amendment, R03-A: Not Just Large Chapters, 1) assigns the task of distributing talking points to the NPC and Comms, rather than the GDC, 2) gives the NPC broader discretion to choose chapter highlights from chapters of various sizes in member bulletins, and 3) specifies that member bulletins should go out to the general membership, rather than all members, to avoid a Convention mandate to email members who may have unsubscribed from member bulletins.A black background with DSA LSC flag in upper left corner. Subtitle: amending R04: For a Socialist Party in Years, Not Decades
Body text under the white solid line:
R04 takes the initiative on developing a socialist party by “constructing and strengthening local pre-party formations, developing the left wing of the labor movement, the launching of a socialist slate, and bringing together aligned organizations in shared struggle.”
Our amendment, R04-A: The Party is DSA, asserts that DSA itself will be the organizational form of the socialist party. References to the formation of a new party out of other groups are altered to reference mergers into DSA. The amendment also modifies the socialist slate to so that it consists of all national endorsees, striking what we believe would create a second tier of national endorsement.A black background with DSA LSC flag in upper left corner. Subtitle: amending R28: Anti-Imperialism in the 21st Century
Body text under the white solid line:
R28 brings the ‘big tent’ to our international solidarity work in order to build “towards an international revolutionary movement for democratic socialism.” Additionally, it would emphasize our opposition to NATO, the US war machine, and the funding of genocide in Gaza.
Our amendment, R28-A: Decolonial Anti-Imperialism, builds on this approach by strengthening DSA’s commitment to an anti-interventionist and decolonial international practice. We emphasize the Palestinians’ right of resistance, our categorical opposition to US intervention abroad, and redouble our commitment to indigenous liberation.A black background with DSA LSC flag in upper left corner. Title: DSA LSC Our Amendments
A red dotted rectangle with rounded corners with a white solid horizontal line in the upper fifth of the rectangle. A red triangle pointing right followed by header text: R35-A: Stipend the NPC
Subtitle: amending R35: For Working-Class Member Leadership
Body text under the white solid line:
R35 “instructs the NPC to implement more stipends for elected leaders in next year’s budget,” given that almost all national leaders are unpaid, restricting their capacity for political leadership.
Our amendment, R35-A: Stipend the NPC, removes non-NPC leadership stipends, creates a $1000 dollar per month stipend for at-Large NPC members, and specifies that only NPC or NCC members may receive leadership stipends, as stipends and convention leadership elections for bodies nominally directed by the NPC or NCC would create dual mandates which undermine the authority of the organizations’ primary elected leadership.
