JWST observed NGC 3351 two days ago. This one was processed by @yuvharpaz.bsky.social nerdculture.de/@yuvharpaz/1... 🔭 🧪
The image shows a spiral galaxy, NGC 3351, captured by NASA's James Webb Space Telescope. The galaxy is seen edge-on, with its bright core and spiral arms clearly visible. The image also reveals intricate details of the galaxy's dust lanes and star-forming regions, highlighting the power of the Webb telescope's infrared vision to peer through cosmic dust and unveil hidden structures.

Sombrero galaxy (MIRI) The NASA/ESA/CSA James Webb Space Telescope recently imaged the Sombrero galaxy with its MIRI (Mid-Infrared Instrument), resolving the clumpy nature of the dust along the galaxy’s outer ring.
The galaxy is a very oblong, blue disk that extends from left to right at an angle (from about 10 o’clock to 5 o’clock). The galaxy has a small bright core at the centre. There is an inner disk that is clearer, with speckles of stars scattered throughout. The outer disk of the galaxy is whiteish-blue, and clumpy, like clouds in the sky. There are different coloured dots, distant galaxies, speckled among the black background of space surrounding the galaxy.

For the Apollo 12 anniversary, want to share one of my favorite tales of lunar robotics. It ends with one of the most iconic images from Apollo, but it begins with an amazing image in its own right. In February 1967, Lunar Orbiter III captured this image of Surveyor I. 🧵(1/8) 🔭 Credit: NASA/Goddard
A black and white photograph of the lunar surface taken by the Lunar Orbiter III team. In the middle is a red circle indicating the position of Surveyor I. Full credit link: https://nssdc.gsfc.nasa.gov/imgcat/html/object_page/lo3_h194_1.html

Sometimes I wish I could channel my inner Bert—just flop on the floor, faceplant into a bowl of food, and call it a day.
