Stay Positive! It's what I'm always telling my students, though I'm not just talking about their outlook on life. I'm also referring to how they play marimba--you'll see what I mean! #marimba #education #technique

When I got back into working out a few years ago, I told myself that when I turned 40 I wanted to be able to say that I was in the best shape of my life. At 39, I'm not quite there yet, but I'm feeling pretty motivated! (Anyway, I can't wait to eat like 500 Burgers later)

If I've learned anything playing video game music on Twitch, it's that the soundtracks to obscure sports games for 8 and 16-bit consoles always go way harder than they should. Tune into #MarimbaMonday at 7pm ET on Twitch! #twitch #streamer #videogamemusic #percussion

Don't flatten out! Playing marimba with Stevens grip isn't like the cross grips, and it really matters when it comes to interval changes. #marimba #education #technique

Stream schedule for this week--and for the forseeable future! Now that school is back in session, I'll be going back to streaming consistently on Mondays at 7pm ET for Marimba Monday. An impromptu stream later in the week isn't impossible, but we won't count on anything for now. See you Monday!

People who aren't percussionists may not realize that we tend to stress out over playing soft cymbals WAY more than loud! Here's another rehearsal moment from Dvořák's Carnival Overture with the Hartford Symphony Orchestra back in June, annotated with what was probably going through my head.

It might be the middle of the summer, but that doesn't mean we can't have a #tbt to last semester's percussion ensemble concert at WCSU. Of all the sticks and mallets I end up holding, it's not often I find myself holding a baton! #percussionensemble #percussion #education

Playing mallet percussion instruments isn't just a matter of hitting the right note at the right time. We need theory and ear training skills just as much as every other instrument--especially when moments like these happen! #percussion #musictheory #education
